Parent Club Board 2009-10Teacher Appreciation LuncheonFrom the PrincipalPrayer• 30 Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion• 60 <strong>St</strong>udent Ministers• 6 Outstanding Catholic <strong>St</strong>udent from theirparishes (one Teacher for her parish work)Work• SSA athletes were recognized for district,parish, state honors• One state championship in soccer, two runnersup– bowling and cross country; SSA played inat least regional play in all but one sport in oneof the toughest districts in the state• 2nd place for the Spanish play in the ForeignLanguage Festival; 1 st place in the French play(two years in a row)• Several students who made the district and statehonor choirs• For student Council, we hold the District IIPresidency; we took first place in the Scrapbookcontest; we received the Gold HonorCouncil Award• Three students in this area were given theRepublican Professional Women of <strong>St</strong>.Tammany Award. It is symbolicof excellence in education for superior performanceat Spring Invitational. This is awarded to the toptwenty schools according to credit hours earned bythe students. There are generally about 300 schoolsrepresented at testing. LSU began giving this awardover twenty years ago to recognize schools and studentsfor outstanding academic performance. No grade changes will be made afterthat time.SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENT-All students are required to do a summerreading assignment. Summer readingassignments may be found on Edline forreturning students. Assignments will bemailed for eighth grade and new incomingstudents.MATH SUMMER ASSIGNMENT -The Math Summer Assignment is postedon the website and on Edline and appliesonly to returning students. This is a requiredassignment to reinforce concepts and skillslearned in the 08-09 math course. This workwill be checked for completion, but notgraded. Math teachers will be available overthe summer. Check Edline for dates andtimes. Eighth grade and new incomingstudents need not complete a summer mathassignment.SUMMER OFFICE HOURS - June officehours will be Monday through Thursdayfrom 9 a.m. - 12 Noon and closed onFridays. The office will be closed for businessduring the month of July, but we will bechecking the voice mail daily. We willresume regular office hours on August 1.TENTATIVE CALENDAR FOR 2009-10 - The calendar is posted on the front pageof Edline. If orders for newuniform skirts, blouses, blazers, PE shorts and sweatshirts have notbeen placed yet, please do so immediately by calling EmbroidMe at624-9718. DOVE SPORTS PAGENational Soccer Coaches Association ofAmerica (NSCAA) and adidas recognized<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Scholastica</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> Soccer Programin the National Top Ten High School GirlsSoccer Pool for 2009. The team rankedfourth in the top ten soccer teams inAmerica. This is the second time in threeyears that the Soccer Program has receivedthis award.Angela LaBorde was named 2009 MetroArea Athlete of the Year by the Times-Picayune.BOWLINGThe bowling team Pete Bertucci had a productiveseason. The bowling team finished as UndefeatedDistrict Champions and <strong>St</strong>ate Runner-up. JanellDupepe, Elizabeth Powers, and Elise Prete made1 st Team All District and Samantha Bopp, MelanieDutel, Alix <strong>St</strong>. Pe’, and Ashley Ware made 2 nd TeamAll District.Most Improved – Brianna Bulgrin; Managers – Meredith Bennett andAngelle Ulfers.TENNISThe varsity tennis team coached by Barbara Fisher and assisted by SusanLoesberg was regional runner-up and took the runner-up in state fordoubles with the team of Shelby Fritscher and Margaret Bankston.
