5 th July 2012Dear Parent/Carer,I would like to take this opportunity to seek your financial support for your child in theirGCSE Resistant Materials Course and inform you of the forthcoming initiative to sustainsuccess and achievement. In GCSE Resistant Materials, students use a wide range of materials throughout the courseincluding their Controlled Assessment Project. In order to create and enhance products with ahigh specification, we ask that each student makes a contribution of £15 to cover thecosts of materials used in their various projects throughout the year. This year, the cost willalso include the following items to enhance the quality of their work and help prepare themfor the exam:• 1 x Revision guide• 1 x Rubber• 2 x Glue sticks• 3 x Fine liner pens• 3 x Pencils• 1 x Pencil sharpener• Selection of colouring pencils• 1 x Small pencil case to store the equipment. It is expected that this equipment stays in their classroom or workshop so that they are fullyprepared for every lesson.Unless your child chooses to use expensive materials (e.g. hardwoods such as oak) orcomponents (e.g. bought in electronics) in their final product, we will not ask for any furthercontributions to materials. If you have made a contribution for materials, your child will beable to take their products home once the examination process is complete. In many schools, students are asked either to purchase the materials they want to use intheir projects themselves (which can prove very costly and time consuming) or for acontribution at the end of every project that they create. We are asking for a one offcontribution. If you would like to spread out the payment, please discuss this with a memberof the finance department.Thank you for supporting your child’s learning in Design and Technology.
