GCSE Textiles Trip 2012 - Isambard Community School

24th th September 2012Dear Parents/CarersOn Thursday 4 th October we will be taking a group of students to The Fashion Museum in Bathand the Bath Fashion and Costume Hire in Frome.The tripattends.is a valuable primary research trip that I strongly recommend your son/daughterThe Fashion Museumin Bath is the homee of a chronological display of historical costumesincluding fashions for men andwomen from the late1700s to the early 1900s. Thestudentswill also see a glamour collection with a dazzling display of evening wear fashion from over thelast 100 years, an exhibition presenting six top catwalk trends for 20122 and a sport andfashion display to celebrate the London Olympics. Along with all garments displayed, thestudentss will have the opportunity to take part in a corsets and crinolines session. These ‘tryon’ garments are based on real exampless that are on display inn the museum and willl givestudentss the chance to feel what it might have been like to wear w a mid 19 th centurycorset.Whilst inBath the students will also be given a shop survey task. Students will have to find anumber of shops and researchinformation such as price, fabrics, techniques and colours.We will then travel to Frome to visit thee Bath Costume Hire Warehousee. Here students willfind a selection of 25,000 theatrical costumes. Students will have the opportunityto askquestionss to help them with the researchh section of their controlled assessment task andpossibly try on a few garments too!This promises to bea highly inspirational trip for any keen fashion or jewellery designer.Studentswill gather invaluable primary research that will go directly into their controlledassessment task.It is expected thatt the coach will leave school at around 8.30am and return at around 6:30pm.Exact times will be confirmed nearer thee date. Theprice will be £14.000 which will includetickets to the Fashion Museum, insurance and travel costs. Students will need to bring theirown packed lunch.Paymentscan be made via www.parentpay.com or by cash or cheque c made payable to IsambardCommunity School or handed in i to student services.Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis on the receiptt of full payment.
