Before I touched the Linking Book, I looked around atthe five blue sigils etched into the rock walls of the smallroom. I studied their shapes and pondered their meanings astheir blue glow pulsed slowly in the dimly lit cavern.The first sigil, on the wall to the right of the cavernas I entered, appeared to be a bipedal humanoid figureholding a staff or pole in its right hand. Looking fromright to left around the room, I saw sigils in the shapeof a counterclockwise spiral (like the one in the centerof the Journey Cloth palm symbol), a book with aD'ni symbol on it, a city in a cavern (D'ni?), and avolcano under a night sky, which might have beenmeant to represent the very volcano that stoodSpiral, like the palm of thehand symbol.Linking Book, I thinkCity of D'ni? Definitely city;think it's in a cavern.outside the Cleft. These sigils obviously heldsome sort of significance, but aside from their superficial meanings, I couldn'teven begin to decipher them; I didn't even know if I was supposed to read themfrom right to left, or left to right. -34-
