The right bookshelf contained only one book,which had the same sigil inscribed on its coverthat I had seen in the Cleft cavern and inYeesha's Linking Book. I noticed that thesame symbol appeared over both bookshelvesin the hut as well. Was this Yeesha's D'niname? I didn't think that it was a simplecoincidence that I kept seeing it as Iprogressed along the journey that she'd askedme to undertake.Right bookshelf—non-linking booksThe solitary book on the right bookshelf contained only four pages ofwriting, each of which was preceded by a design that incorporated a sketch ofa pedestal. At first I thought the four designs were identical, but then Irealized that each was a subtle variation on the same theme. At the bottom ofeach page was a single D'ni character, which I assumed were page numbers(1–8). I made a note of them; at least that way, I ’d be able to do somerudimentary translation, if the need arose.After studying the pages of the book for a bit, I realized that each designreferred to the page of writing that followed it, and that each page of writingreferred to one of the four <strong>Ages</strong> that the Linking Books in the pedestals linkedto. In fact, the design on the top of each pedestal corresponded to one of thedesigns in the book. Using these clues, I was able to figure out the names ofthe <strong>Ages</strong> that the pedestal Books linked to.-42-
