WORK EXPERIENCE
October 1 st 2007 – today
Post-doc (VENI laureate), NMR research group / Membrane Enzymology, Chemistry Department,
Utrecht University: Combined solution and solid-state NMR study of yeast membrane proteins Hor7p
and Pmp3p.
- The goal of my Veni project is to unravel the structure of a family of small plant membrane
proteins in order to understand their role in salt-tolerance of these plants. For that I cloned several
of these proteins in different constructs, developed a protocol to express and purify them and
recorded many different NMR experiments. Currently I am in the process of structure calculations.
- I am responsible for the NMR teaching during the 3 rd year structural biology course.
November 2004 – September 2007
Post-doc, Laboratoire de RMN, Institut de Biologie Structurale, Grenoble, France: Dynamics and
interaction of two (partially) unstructured viral protein domains.
- I developed and applied NMR methods to study the intrinsic dynamics of unstructured proteins.
January 2000 – September 2004
Ph. D. student, Department of NMR Spectroscopy, Utrecht University (directors: Prof. Dr. R. Boelens
and Prof. Dr. R. Kaptein): Studies on protein dynamics. Development and application of NMR
relaxation methods. (Received degree on the 23 rd of September 2004)
- I developed a novel technique to study protein side-chain dynamics, described the dynamics of
several different proteins and proposed a functional role for these dynamics.
