LESSONLoaves and FishesYear A2nd QuarterLesson 3COMMUNITYI show love to my family and friends.ReferencesMatthew 14:13-21; John 6:1-13; The Desire of Ages, pp. 364-371.Memory Verse“Let us do good to all people” (Galatians 6:10, NIV).ObjectivesThe children will:Know that God cares when people are hungry.Feel confident that God understands how they feel.Respond by sharing with those who are hungry. The MessageI will share with others.Getting Ready to TeachThe Bible Lesson at a GlanceCrowds of people follow Jesus to aremote place where He teaches andheals the sick all day. Late in the dayJesus feels sorry for the people becauseHe knows they must be hungry. He tellsthe disciples to give them something toeat. They tell Jesus they have only fiveloaves and two fishes from a little boy’slunch. Jesus blesses the food, and thereis enough to feed 5,000, with 12 basketsof food left over. This is a lesson about community.Jesus was concerned about the needsof those who followed Him and wantedHis disciples to share His concern. Thesmall lunch offered by the little boy maynot have seemed like much compared tothe great need, but his generosity wasmultiplied to bless many others.Teacher Enrichment“After the multitude had been fed, there was an abundance of food left. But46

THREEHe who had all the resources of infinitepower at His command said, ‘Gather upthe fragments that remain, that nothingbe lost.’ These words meant more thanputting the bread into the baskets. Thelesson was twofold. Nothing is to bewasted. We are to let slip no temporal advantage. We should neglect nothing thatwill tend to benefit a human being. Leteverything be gathered up that will relievethe necessity of earth’s hungry ones. Andthere should be the same carefulness inspiritual things. When the baskets of fragmentswere collected, the people thoughtof their friends at home. They wantedthem to share in the bread that Christ hadblessed” (The Desire of Ages, p. 368).Room DecorationsContinue to use the same outdoorbeach scene you have used for the pasttwo months.
