HEADACHE THAT WOULDN’T GO AWAY: ACASE STUDY ON NEUROCYSTICERCOSISGroup 10:Yarismel DandradeRachel GabrielHelena SaraviaChristina Yidi

PART III- EMERGENCY ROOMQuestions: What might that white circle be? Do you think she waited too long to revisit the doctor?

PART IV- DIAGNOSISTaenia solium Life Cycle

PART IV- DIAGNOSISQuestions: Has anyone ever had a parasite? Does anyone travel abroad frequently? After seeing the diagrams, do you understand theprocess by which the tapeworm T. solium’s eggscan get lodged into the brain?

PART V- DOCTOR’S REFLECTIONWhen I found out about this, I looked over her hospital chartand then I looked at my own notes. How had I missed that? Whatdid I do differently? I discussed this with my teachers and theyassured me I had done everything properly but I could not helpfeeling frustrated. I did everything right and still missed thediagnosis. I called the patient to see how she was doing but I wasnot really surprised when she chose to check up with anotherdoctor. I felt aggravated because I did not have the chance tofollow up. From now on I am not going to tell my patients to callme if they do not feel better. I’ll schedule an appointment forthem to come and if they end up feeling better before theappointment then great but if not, I’m going to follow up on them.Questions: Is the misdiagnosis the primary care physician’s fault? What could’ve been done differently to diagnose the patientearlier?
