IKO Polimar CRSProduct Data SheetJanuary 2010IKO Polimar CRS is a liquid applied high performance, flexible polyurethane coatingdesigned for refurbishment of plastic coated claddingDescriptionIKO Polimar CRS is a coloured liquid coating based on a unique blend of aliphatic resins reinforced with colourstable and chemical resistant pigments to produce a coating which offers a tough durable finish with excellenterosion, weather and UV resistance.IKO Polimar CRS can be applied to plastisol coated surfaces using brush, roller or spray application. IKOPolimar CRS has been tested by Corus Group Plc for use as an over paint system on Colorcoat HPS 200®.Provided the plastisol coating is well adhered IKO Polimar CRS can be applied directly onto the cleaned andprepared surface, no primer is required. IKO Polimar CRS is available in a range of common cladding colours.AccessoriesIKO Polimar AP is a moisture curing polyurethane primer used for priming suitably prepared exposed metalsurfaces. IKO Polimar PT is a solvent thinner, used to dilute IKO Polimar CRS to enable it to be applied usingairless spray equipment.Features & Benefits• Single pack formulation, usually applied in a single coat application• No primer usually required• Does not chalk on ageing• Excellent resistance to environmental pollutants• Highly flexible to cope with the natural movement of plastisol coated cladding• Range of standard cladding colours with excellent opacity• Brush, roller or spray application• Corus Colorcoat HPS 200® approvalProduct DetailsDescription Product Code Colour Pack size / dimensionsIKO Polimar CRS MW700320 Various 20 LitresIKO Polimar AP MW700405 Silver/grey 5 LitresIKO Polimar PT MW700505 - 5 LitresDurabilityIKO Polimar CRS liquid applied coating is designed to give up to 10 years protection as a plastic coatedcladding refurbishment system in accordance with an IKO specification.ApplicationStorageIKO Polimar CRS is flammable and should be stored away from sources of ignition in original sealed containersat a temperature between 5°C and30°C. The product has a shelf life of 6 months from date of manufacture and should be used within this period.Once opened IKO Polimar CRS will start to cure and a skin will form. It may be possible to remove the skin anduse the remaining material. Previously opened tins should be used as soon as possible - within 2 or 3 days.Preparation

All surfaces should be clean, dry and free from loose material. IKO Polimar CRS should only be applied tostructurally sound areas. Plastisol surfaces should be detergent cleaned to remove dirt and grease. Looseflaking material must be removed back to a sound edge. Exposed metal surfaces should be mechanicallyabraded and then patch primed with IKO Polimar AP primer in accordance with the technical data sheet. Poroussurfaces should be primed with IKO Polimar GP primer in accordance with the product technical data sheet.IKO Polimar CRS does not require a primer on Colorcoat HPS 200® and can be applied directly onto theprepared and cleaned surface.InstallationProvided the prepared surface is clean, dry and free from condensation and ice, IKO Polimar CRS can beapplied at temperatures as low as 0°C, with no restriction on the relative humidity. However IKO Polimar CRSshould not be applied during rain or snow or when precipitation is likely to occur before the coating has reacheda touch dry state.IKO Polimar CRS is a single component material and should only require stirring before use to incorporate anyslight separation.IKO Polimar CRS can be applied by brush, roller or airless spray.IKO Polimar CRS should be applied using a good quality stiff bristled brush or a medium/long pile roller in auniform even coating. For most applications a single coating will be sufficient, although for certain total colourchanges a second coat maybe required. If applying IKO Polimar CRS by airless spray the typical settings are:Tip pressure 2500 - 3000 psi, Tip size 13 - 17 thou. IKO Polimar CRS may require thinning for spray applicationdepending on the equipment being used. Up to 10% by volume of IKO Polimar PT can be added to dilute IKOPolimar CRS as required. All equipment should be cleaned immediately after use with IKO Polimar PT solvent.Application RatesIKO Polimar CRS should be applied at a coverage rate of 8m2/litre.Site Quality ControlRegular inspection of the work in progress should be made to ensure that the work is executed to a goodstandard and in accordance with the specification.Site SafetyGuidance given in BS 8000: 1989 and the CDM Regulations: 2007 should be followed. Provision should bemade for adequate scaffolding to ensure the safety of operators in accordance with health and safetyrequirements.MaintenanceIKO PLC recommend that IKO Polimar liquid applied systems are inspected and maintained in accordance withthe specification guidelines. The repair of damage to IKO Polimar liquid applied systems is by applying a furthercoating of the original product to the damaged area.UsesIKO Polimar CRS is suitable for application to plastic coated cladding as a refurbishment system.ToPhysical PropertiesCharacteristics Method Units ValueDrying and cure times at 20 ºC - HoursHoursHoursDaysTouch DryRainfall resistantMinimum overcoatingFull cure44167Volume Solids - % 60VOC - g/litre 290Tensile Strength ASTM D412 Kg/cm² 71.6Elongation ASTM D412 % 200Tear Strength ASTM D624 Kg/cm 71.6Water Vapour Permeability ASTM D1653 Perm.cm 2.87 x 10-4British Steel 2mm Cross Scribe/Excellent AdhesionErichson Draw Test onColorcoat HPS200® PlastisolCoated Sheet
