CapabilityJLT is one of the world’s leading brokers andhas had a dedicated P&I team since the early1980s. Our business philosophy can besummarised as follows:• To get to know your operations.• To listen to your needs/wants.• To be straight-talking.• To provide a first class service/product which enhancesyour existing arrangements, adds value to your businessand solves problems.• We understand the dynamics of your industry.• We believe that we have the best marine team in themarket. The team comprises qualified, experiencedindividuals who have worked together for many years. We seek to be the employer of choice within the marinebroking industry. As well as expanding our team, recruiting likeminded professionals, our aim is to build long-termrelationships with people you know rather than consistentlybeing introduced to new faces brought in to service yourbusiness requirements.• We will not waste your time.• We know that shipping is a busy international industry andputs huge demands on the time people have to commit tonon-core activities. As a service industry to your business we do not expect tooccupy a disproportionate amount of your time. However, webelieve that our dynamic and innovative approach to insuranceplacements will protect your company’s bottom line profitabilityand that we can add value to your business.2

We will formulate with you an agreed timetable for the renewalprocess which will include the following:• Preparation of risk presentations to underwriters.• Financial security vetting (which is an ongoing processthroughout the year).• Negotiation of competitive renewal terms from the Club(s).• Negotiation of policy terms, conditions and deductibles.• Production of a renewal report including a detailed analysisof terms and premium options for each class of risk.• Placement of the agreed programme with the Club(s) ofyour choice. In addition to the renewal services mentioned above, we wouldalso provide a full post renewal administration support service. This includes collecting, checking, collating and forwarding alldocumentation to you.We would service any changes to your fleet throughout theyear including additional purchases, cancellations, changes ofassured or changes in tonnage. We would also oversee theissuance of letters of undertaking to mortgagees as may berequired and administer the process of collecting laid upreturns should these be due and payable. We will be your eyes and ears in the P&I market and will keepyou fully advised of all important market news anddevelopments throughout the year, irrespective of whether ornot they relate to your particular Club(s).We do not believe that we add value by being involved inroutine P&I claims. We encourage you to liaise and discusssuch matters directly with your Club’s claims executives as thisenhances the Member/Club relationship. However, in the eventof any claims problems arising where a satisfactory resolutionappears to be difficult, we would become involved indiscussions with the underwriter to assist in obtaining the bestpossible result for you. However we have no desire to become involved in collectingpremiums and paying them to the Club(s). Experience hasshown that this does not add any value for either you or theClub(s). Consequently we will ask that you remit premiumsdirectly to the Club against their invoices.4

What we can do for youOur dedicated service team will work in closeco-operation with you to ensure that not onlyare the renewal negotiations handledsuccessfully in terms of costs and conditionsbut also efficiently in terms of documentation. We will also ensure that your P&I requirements are handled in athorough and professional manner throughout the year. Whena member of your service team is out of the office othermembers of the team will be reading their e-mails and handlingtheir business so you can feel confident that your needs will becatered for at all times. In addition to conventional broking services we are able toprovide bespoke specialist consultancy services, which can bedesigned for “one-off” reviews or for more long term projects. These consultancies can be of particular use for owners whohave and wish to maintain a particularly close relationship withtheir Clubs but would still like the input of an independentprofessional broker. In such circumstances we can review the proposed renewalterms and/or negotiate directly with the Club on renewal (thusprotecting your relationship with the Club at what can be adifficult and stressful time). In short we can be the buffer between the insurance buyerand the insurance provider when negotiations become difficultand prevent relationships between the Member/Clubbecoming strained. We also prepare an annual P&I Review, so you are kept fullyappraised of what is going on in the P&I Club world. This is acrucial part of JLT providing you with a commercial advantageover your competitors in P&I matters.5
