Special Situations and GoalkeepingInternational <strong>Floorball</strong> FederationMovement controlThe goalkeeper’s movement should be smooth,sharp and quick. The ball moves faster than the players,so the goalkeeper should try to predict wherethe ball is played next and move accordingly.All movement should happen from the legs so that handsare left free to make saves if necessary. Therefore the strengthin the legs and middle body should be optimized. Theuse of feet should depend on the need of the movement.Forward- backwardForward-backward movement is easier using hands but stillthe weight should be on knees to able the hand reactionsin order to make save. In case of a pass from the corner tothe slot, the goalkeeper should first cover the front post andthen follow the pass by moving towards the receiver to coveras much space as possible. Therefore forward movement towardsthe shot should be emphasised. There is a risk howeverthat the ball is played closer to the net which means that thegoalkeeper should be ready to cover that shot as well. Thegoalkeeper should always be ready to make the next save.Side to sideIf the goalkeeper needs to make a wide movement from side toside, a large movement pattern where the knee is lifted towardsthe movement and other side foot is pushing should be used.A smaller movement is needed when the ball is for examplefurther away from the goal. In this case the goalkeepershould be light on the knees and only execute small stepswhich enable short side- and upward movement. It is alsoimportant to be able to stand up after a save in order to seethe court and put the ball back in play as fast as possible.DivingDiving, where the goalkeeper is throwing him/herselfto the side in order to make a save, should be avoided untilthe last moment. It is difficult to rise from lying on theside in case the ball is still in play and therefore goalkeeperis easily out-played. If the goalkeeper is however forced todive, the upper side’s arm and leg should be up to covermover space. This can be practiced by diving to a mattress.34◄
