This is illustratedby the (act that the youth both in South Africa(7-17 years) and in Mtunzini (7-20 years) commitmostly crimes against property.6.9 Summary.Right through this chapter, it has become evident thatage is an important factor in determining the type of 'crime committed.Among the Africans in South Africain the age-group 7-17 years, the most common crimes intheir order of importance 'are crimes aga.inst property (Class 'D.)j"' :and violations of social relations. Economiccrimes are not important in this age-group.The agegroup18-20 years follows the same pattern of theAfidistribution of crimes with the exception that violationsof personal relations arid violations of community life,I •arealso important in this age-group. In the age-group21 years and over, the Africans commit mostly violationsof community life, crimes pertaining to personal relations,crimes against property and violations of socialrelations.The distribution of the different classes of crime amongttie Africans in the va.rious age-groups in Mtunzini followsmore or less the same pattern as described above. In theage-group 7-20 years, the order of importance is as follows:crimes against property, violations of personal relationsftnd violations of community life. ,In the age-group 21-29 years, the order of importance is the following: violationfof community life, violations of personal relations andviolations of social relations. Finally, in the age-group30 years and over, violations-of community life; violations..of social relations, violations of personal relationsandcrimes against property are the most importantcrimes.151 / •••••
