- 175 -d amagLng.eVL. dence.20)8.4 Summary. The economic cast of crime in Mtunzini cannot beaccurately estimated owing to the unavailability ofdata in that direction. The victim or the policeOfficer evaluating property stolen or otherwisedestroyed, gives flnly a rough estimate. Informationregarding the cost of crime in this chapter is, therefore, incomplete. It has, inter alia, become clear in this chapter thatthe cost of crime both in terms of property lost anddestroyed through thefts and other crimes,is muchhigher than the figures estimated here. The resultof all this is that the absolute and relative cost ofcombating crime in Mtunzini is an expensive undertakingboth in terms of money and property lost and humanSUffering. More purposefUl research into the natureand value of property lost through crimes such asm~ntioned in this chapter can contribute greatly tothe prevention and combating of crime.176/•..•.•
