Brenda Moore, Howard Mouton, Hal Perry, Karl Spickelmier, and Bobby Voorhis who came early and donated their time.We also would like to wish Jody Slack, who was not inattendance, a speedy recovery from his broken arm. ThePolicy Board discussed a number of issues. As we are racingthe clock to get this article in by deadline, we will give someof the highlights here, with more details next month.Seeding: Due to the largely negative response to this issue, there will be no seeding in any Federation tournaments in1989.Point Standings: Most of the people who commented onthe point standings expressed a desire to see doubles tournamentscounted. Therefore, effective immediately, in 1989points will be awarded on the following basis: points to betabulated using same formula as singles, and the points to bedivided between the two players.Practice Time: Rule change -- instead of eight weights upand back, 5 minutes will be allotted each player in singles, and5 minutes per team in doubles.Entry Fees: A new minimum of $100 (from the previousminimum of $150) for tournaments on the Pro Tour.Women's Tour: There will be point standings for womenthis year. The start of the Women's Tour and point standingswere decisions made by the Federation. The Policy Board isproviding input until the Women's Policy Board is formed.Although no method has been determined for funding thepoint standings as of yet, they are being tabulated beginningwith the Vegas tourney.Use of Personal Weights: Once again, the Policy Boardvoted unanimously to allow personal weights. The Federationwill, in the future, provide equipment for checking weights.Although no firm decision was made, a penalty of suspensionof one to two years for altering weights was discussed.Host a Federation Tournament for $50The Federation would like to become much more involvedwith local tournaments in 1989. As shuffleboard becomesmuch closer to attaining national sponsorship, the Federationneeds as much ammunition as possible when talking topotential sponsors. This ammunition is provided by ourinvolvement with as many leagues and small tournaments aspossible. With the Pro Tour organized and running smoothly,we are turning our attention to these other areas. To host a Federation-sanctioned tournament, a sanction feeof $50, and your agreement to play by the rules made by theFederation's Player Policy Board, are all that are necessary. Inreturn, the Federation logo will appear on your flyer, TheBoard Talk will give a 10% discount on your advertising forthis tournament, your tournament will be listed in our newCalendar section, and you will receive a laminated copy of theFederation's tournament rules to post near your shuffleboard. If you have any questions about this program, call us collect at313-344-9666.
