Parent Teacher Association (PTA) - Orange County Schools

• The current sound system in the gym is not functioning properly. It is very difficult to hear speakersduring school function.• The PTA goal is to replace the gym’s sound system during the 2012-2013 school year.• Two estimates from sound system vendors: $10,320 and $6,611. We will request more estimates andbring a recommendation to the PTA for review and approval at the Oct or Nov meeting.Committee ReportsYearbook: Lucie Langevin - The yearbook committee will start in January. The fifth grade students should bringin their baby pictures in December to include in the yearbook.Cultural Arts: Keri Frank (absent) Tracy Dorsi provided the below update.• Mikki Mills will perform at the Read-A-Thon closing assembly on Fri 10/12 at 1pm.• Request volunteers who have experience with grant writing to obtain funds for cultural activities.• Request a volunteer to lead the Arts and Craft Bazaar in November. If no one volunteers, then the bazaarwill not be held.Spirit Wear: Susan Fenwick – HES t-shirt order forms will be distributed after the fall intersession break.Social – Vacant chairperson – During the meeting, Chrissy Moore volunteered to chair the Social Committee.Chrissy will provide a report during the Oct meeting after she has had a planning session with other parentsinterested in volunteering on the social committee.Membership: Sharon Sanders – 197 people have completed the PTA membership form and paid their dues for2012-2013 school year. The membership cards have been printed and are available for pickup after the PTAmeeting and also will be distributed to teachers to send home with students.Book Fair: Angela Walker (absent) – Tracy Dorsi reminded everyone that the Scholastic Fall book fair is 10/29 –11/2. Please contact Angela if you would like to volunteer to assist with the book fair.Hospitality – Vacant chairperson – During the meeting, Sonya Sutton volunteered to chair the HospitalityCommittee.Community Funding – Debra Harris (absent) – No reportDolphin Directory: Tracy Dorsi – The Dolphin Directory has been completed and placed in teachers’ mailboxes fordistribution to students.Dolphin Journal: No reportNew Business:Plechette Abernathy - Rochelle Sutton, the current treasurer, is unable to continue as the HES PTA treasurer.Diane Hensley Smith has volunteered to serve as HES PTA treasurer. The PTA members voted to approve Diana asthe HES PTA treasurer.

Tracy Dorsi – Thanks to all who volunteered for the HES Nature Trail clean up. In addition to cleaning up the HESNature trail, volunteers weeded the flower beds in the K-2 car rider drop off area. She requested volunteers toorganize HES grounds clean up day in the Spring.Plechette Abernathy – Miscellaneous Announcements• Orange County Science night with Discovery Network – 9/26 at Gravelly Hill and 9/27 at AL Stanback. K-12 orange county students and parents are invited.
