William T. Barton had the misfortune of burning one of his hands Sunday morning. He is the night watchman at theSanta Fe Yards. The oil by the engine caught fire and in trying to extinguish it Mr. Barton burned his hand.Jean Nicolas of French <strong>Valley</strong> was in town one day this week looking after business interests.Albert F. Nienke has an option on a large bill of lumber for the Fruit Association at Fallbrook. The Association isplanning to build a large storage warehouse at Fallbrook in the near future.December 22, <strong>1916</strong>Mrs. Preston V. Swanguen is helping this week at the lunchrooms in the absence of Mrs. Lizzie M. Hall, who wastaken to Los Angeles sick.Henry Hamilton of Cahuilla was a business visitor in town the first of the week.Frank Ramos, who is attending school at Riverside, came home Saturday night to spend the holidays.Mrs. Carl Wust of Rainbow was a weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. William W. Allen.Mark A. Robertson and sons of Aguanga were in town the first of the week buying lumber.J. S. Feliz, foreman at the Pauba Ranch, and who has been a faithful employee of the Vail brothers for the pastseven or eight years, left last week for Santa Barbara, to be foreman at one of the Vail ranches there.Mrs. George Simon arrived Monday from Los Angeles and will be in charge of Lizzie M. Hall's lunchrooms.The pool hall of John B. Kelly is undergoing repairs. The building had to be raised and props put under it.Angel Ledisma returned to the Pauba Ranch Wednesday night from Riverside where he went last week to transactimportant business.Albert Golsh and wife returned Sunday from Pala, where Mr. Golsh has been working.Vail Bros. shipped eighteen carloads of cattle to Santa Barbara Thursday, where they will be fattened for market.They were in charge of Pat Speziali.Mrs. Lizzie M. Hall, who was on the sick list a few days here, was taken to the hospital in Los Angeles where anoperation was performed. Word has been received that she is improving. Her daughter, Mrs. Swanguen,accompanied her.James Higgins of Pala was in town the last of the week doing some trading.Paul Thompson was in town Tuesday selling winter pears and oranges.Miss Florence Willits, who teaches school at Fellows, is visiting Miss Irene Vardy, the teacher here. They are schoolchums.Miss Mary Cazas, who has been away for the past year, returned last week and will spend the holidays here.H. C. Hind was business visitor from Murrieta, Friday.P. Alvarez and family have moved to town.The Misses Vardy and Willits left for San Bernardino the last of the week, where they will spend part of their vacation.35
