The SWAT Team hosted a basicentry course for APD personnel andother agencies, including BCSO andNew Mexico State Police tacticalofficers. The nine-day InternationalBalloon Fiesta was a success, withno significant issues and no SWATcall outs. Throughout the year, SWATattended public events includingToys for Tots, and the Junior PoliceAcademy.In <strong>2013</strong>, the K9 Unit was utilizedto find an article of evidence thatwas used in the commission of ahomicide. Homicide Unit detectivesrequested the K9 Unit and the K9unit was able to locate the firearmused in the homicide under aportable building.In another case, a K9 Unit conductedan area search looking for a subjectwho had committed an armedrobbery. The search resulted in thesubject being taken into custody. Inanother incident that was initiatedby the Motor Unit, a K9 Unit wasdeployed resulting in the offenderbeing taken into custody. Thesubject was found hiding under ahouse. The subject had a felonywarrant for his arrest.During the week of June 17, theAlbuquerque Police DepartmentBomb Unit attended a competition atthe annual Western National RobotRodeo. The competition was hostedat the Kirtland Air Force Base bySandia National Labs. Teams fromacross the United States participatedin the four day competition.Teams were comprised of militarypersonnel, as well as public safetybomb squads from around the stateand country.SPECIAL OPERATIONSDIVISIONhundred meters. It was deployed onseveral bomb activations and it wasable to provide a visual of the targetor object within five minutes of theBomb Tech arriving on scene.The Prisoner Transport Unit (PTU)established a full-time MobileTransport Team that picks upprisoners citywide from the fieldthree days a week. The Mobile Teamoperated on Sunday, Monday, andTuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.when the Prisoner Transport Centeris closed. The Mobile TransportTeam picked up prisoners from arrestlocations and sub-stations, whichhelps to keep police officers in theirarea commands to answer calls forservice. Since January <strong>2013</strong>, theMobile Transport Team picked upand transported 992 prisoners fromthe field.The specialized Public InebriantIntervention Program (PIIP) Teamwas created as a pilot projectwith the University of New MexicoHospital and the Bernalillo CountyMATS Facility to better managepublic inebriants in Albuquerque.The PIIP Team became a full timePTU operation in April. In <strong>2013</strong>, thePIIP Team transported 974 publicinebriants to the MATS facility.The DVTEL video and audio systemsat the Prisoner Transport Centerwere upgraded to a newer versionof operating system.
