Local Implementation Plan YUENDUMU16Published 30 September 2011SchoolingHighlightsThe Yuendumu School provides preschool, primaryschool and secondary school education.The community is keen to see barriers to learningreduced and bilingual education supported.Community strengths••The school is governed locally by a schoolcouncil made up of community parents.••The school runs a nutrition program providingrecess snack and lunch.Desired community outcomes••Barriers to learning are reduced.••Support bilingual education within theschool system.CommitmentsThe community and all levels of government arecommitting to a number of actions to address thecommunity’s priorities, including:••A bilingual approach to education will bedelivered with English as the predominantlanguage of instruction supported by firstlanguage and enriched with an early yearsbi–literacy approach up to Year 2.••School Council members to work with thebroader community and the school toaddress strategies to increase attendanceand reduce bullying and teasing problemsin and around school.••Parents will send their children to school.Details of Yuendumu’s schooling priorities andactions are in Schedule A.
