Adelphi Alumna hires 5 Adelphi Interns
to gain hands-on experience
Adelphi Alumna, Mary Ann McKeever–Alfieri, is the
Executive Director of R+D Analytical Services at
Estee Lauder Companies, Inc. Estee Lauder is one of
the nation's largest cosmetics company and a
Long Island fixture for decades.
Ms. McKeever–Alfieri hired five Adelphi interns, to
participate in project-focused internships at
Estee Lauder’s Melville location this past fall.
Three interns were offered full-time temp jobs at
Estee Lauder upon completion of their internship.

with Estee Lauder in the Fall 2011?
To be eligible to apply, you must meet the following criteria:
· Completion of 69 credits by the time the internship begins
· Completion of at least one semester at Adelphi
· Cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
· Two letters of recommendation from your professors
· You must be free from 8:30am – 5pm, on the day which you
are to work, Monday through Friday
· You must provide your own transportation to and from the
facility in Melville.

MY INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE AT ESTEE LAUDER
In the fall 2010 semester, I was privileged to obtain an internship at Estee Lauder. Every Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm,
I worked in the Material Science lab where learned to analyze various color capture images using different computer
software to obtain data used to analyze the effectiveness of a whitening cream, dark-circles, and the yellowness of skin.
This information can be used in the cosmetic industry to further enhance their products. Furthermore, I was acquainted
with various instruments that are used to check hydrophobicity, surface tension, and many other techniques used to
examine cosmetic products.
This experience was extremely educational, and allowed me to consider a career in the industrial science field which I
had not considered before. The people I encountered during my experience were extremely pleasant, accommodating
and welcoming. Everyone treated me with respect, listened to my input, and helped me when I needed help. Estee
Lauder is a great place to learn, apply what you’ve learned, and flourish in an industrial research setting.
