Eligible students areidentified by the Office of Student Financial Servicesbased on financial need.NEW STUDENT ORIENTATIONCSI develops and implements all new studentOrientation programs at Adelphi University. CSIprovides programs that give incoming students andparents the information, tools and opportunities foran easy transition to college life.During Orientation, lasting friendships and memorableexperiences are created. Students become familiarwith the campus, meet with advisers and register forclasses—ready to pursue their academic journey assoon as the semester begins.FAMILY WEEKENDCSI coordinates and promotes a weekend ofUniversity activities for current students, theirfamilies and the Adelphi community. The weekendincludes athletic games, Spirit Carnival, studentperformances, dinner, entertainment and off-campustrips, and culminates with the crowning of the kingand queen.COMMENCEMENTThe culmination of the student’s journey is celebratedby the Adelphi community at Commencement.CSI furnishes information and materials to makethis commemoration an enjoyable and memorableexperience.PANTHERTAINMENT BOOTHAdelphi encourages students to participate in activitiesboth on and off campus. More than 80 student clubs and organizationsare available at the University, meeting a varietyof interests—from student government to communityservice. Whether commuter or resident, every student isencouraged to become part of the campus communitythrough the support services available from CSI.CSI is located in the Ruth S. Harley University Center(UC)—a centralized hub for student activities.GETTING INVOLVEDGetting involved in campus life enhances the student’scollege experience and provides an opportunity todevelop leadership skills and a chance to bond withfellow classmates. There are more than 80 clubs andorganizations on campus, including academic, social,community service and religious-based clubs, as wellas Greek life and honor societies. If you can’t finda student organization that interests you, there is asimple process for starting a new one. Clubs andorganizations have mailboxes in the PantherTainmentBooth or can be contacted through club emailaccounts. The Center for Student Involvement providesa centralized location for students to learn aboutstudent organizations and upcoming events.In addition to student organizations, there arenumerous student programming events that take placedaily, including novelty vendors and performers,parties, comedy shows, coffeehouses, lectures, offcampustrips and more. Greek organizations offer an environmentthat enhances the learning experiences available oncampus. They highlight the finest qualities among menand women: scholarship, leadership, a responsibility totheir community and lifelong friendship.Membership in a fraternity, sorority or social fellowshipcan be among the most rewarding collegiateexperiences, and with a diverse array of organizationsto choose from, CSI encourages all students toconsider Greek life.COMMUTER STUDENT SERVICESThrough commuter student services, as well as theCommuter Student Organization, Commuter AssistantProgram and Commuter Senators, commuter studentscan learn how to become involved in campus life.Services include maps, transportation timetables, acommuter hotline and off-campus housing resources.For those unplanned circumstances, the office willlend helpful tools, such as ice scrapers, umbrellasand phone chargers.Commuters can relax between classes in the Angelaand Barry Zeman Commuter Lounge in the Ruth S.Harley University Center, where they have accessto computers, printers, lockers, a big-screen TV andmicrowave ovens. Five additional lounge areas aresituated throughout the campus.TRANSFER STUDENT SERVICESTransfer-specific advising, events and workshopsprovide transfer students the support they needto successfully transition to Adelphi. The range ofservices and programs includes Transfer TransitionDay, Transfer Ambassadors, transfer events andtransfer meet-and-greet opportunities, as well as anopportunity to become a member of Tau Sigma, thenational transfer honor society.STUDENT LEADERSHIP SERVICESCSI is committed to offering all Adelphi students anopportunity to grow and become leaders. Adelphi hasa number of programs, which include the LeadershipCertificate Program, where students and alumni attendvarious workshops to enhance their leadership skillsand career expectations.In addition to other programs that allow students todevelop strong leadership skills, CSI works diligently todevelop opportunities for students to gain recognition fortheir leadership involvement. Recognition opportunitiesinclude the Sigma Lambda Honor Society, Who’sWho Among Students in American Universities &Colleges and an opportunity to be acknowledged asAdelphi’s Student Leader of the Month.CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND SERVICEPROGRAMSCSI offers a wide array of programs for studentswho are interested in volunteering and participatingin service projects in the community. Throughcollaboration with community organizations, CSIserves as a resource for students who want to helpothers. CSI facilitates programming that providesstudents with opportunities to perform both indirectand direct service.Service initiatives developed by CSI include, but arenot limited to, Relay For Life, the Freshman CommunityAction Program, Adelphi Gives Back Month, Be theChange Week, blood drives, a mentoring programand alternative winter and spring service trips.MULTICULTURAL AFFAIRSMulticultural Affairs promotes an inclusive andsocially just environment.
