NEW STUDENT ORIENTATIONCSI develops and implements all new studentOrientation programs at <strong>Adelphi</strong> <strong>University</strong>. CSIprovides programs designed to give incomingstudents and parents the in<strong>for</strong>mation, tools, andPANTHERTAINMENT BOOTHcampus, including academic, social, community service,and religious-based clubs. OrgSync makes it easysoon as the semester begins.to get—and stay—involved.HOMECOMING/FAMILY WEEKENDCONTACT USCSI, in collaboration with other departments,promotes a week of <strong>University</strong> activities. <strong>Student</strong>clubs and organizations assemble with a collectiveschool spirit to provide fun and camaraderie <strong>for</strong>current students and their families, and to welcomeback <strong>Adelphi</strong> alumni. In addition to athletic events,the excitement culminates with the crowning of theHomecoming King and Queen.COMMENCEMENTThe culmination of the student’s <strong>University</strong>journey is celebrated by the <strong>Adelphi</strong> communityat Commencement. CSI furnishes in<strong>for</strong>mation andmaterials to make this commemoration an enjoyableand memorable experience.<strong>Adelphi</strong> encourages students to participatein activities both on and off campus. Over 80 student clubs and organizationsare available at the <strong>University</strong>, meeting a variety ofinterests from student government to communityservice. Whether commuter or resident, every student isencouraged to become part of the campus communitythrough the support services available from CSI.STUDENT LEADERSHIP SERVICESAll students are offered the opportunity to developtheir leadership skills. Workshops and presentationsprovide interested students with opportunitiesto improve proficiency in communication, timemanagement, organization, and other areas. In additionto a number of programs that allow students todevelop stronger leadership skills, <strong>Student</strong> LeadershipServices works hard to allow <strong>Adelphi</strong> students to gainrecognition <strong>for</strong> all of their work on campus.GREEK LIFE AND SOCIAL FELLOWSHIPSGreek <strong>Life</strong> at <strong>Adelphi</strong> <strong>University</strong> consists of all ofthe recognized fraternities, sororities, and socialfellowships. Greek organizations offer an environmentthat enhances the learning experiences available oncampus. They highlight the finest qualities among menand women: scholarship, leadership, a responsibility totheir community, and lifelong friendship.Membership in a fraternity, sorority, and socialfellowship can be among the most rewardingcollegiate experiences, and with a diverse array o<strong>for</strong>ganizations to choose from, CSI encourages allstudents to consider Greek <strong>Life</strong>.MULTICULTURAL AFFAIRSCSI provides opportunities to enhance the awarenessand appreciation of diversity, social justice issues, andthe concerns of traditionally underserved populations.CSI advises students and provides programming thathelps to foster a campus climate that celebrates andembraces difference.ADELPHI OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM<strong>Adelphi</strong>’s Opportunity Program is designed toprovide access to higher education <strong>for</strong> economicallydisadvantaged students each year. <strong>Student</strong>s selected<strong>for</strong> this program receive additional funding andcounseling during their entire undergraduate tenure.Eligible students are identified by <strong>Student</strong> FinancialServices based on financial need.INTERFAITH CENTERThe Interfaith <strong>Center</strong> fosters an ecumenical andinterfaith presence on campus and introducesinterested members of the <strong>University</strong> community tohouses of worship in the area. The <strong>Center</strong> providesa campus ministry to suit individual needs throughspiritual guidance, counseling, educational programs,meditation, social events, and opportunities <strong>for</strong>worship. Housed in the <strong>Center</strong> is an interfaith librarycontaining reference materials on all religions.Services are conducted by Catholic, Humanist, Jewish,Muslim, and Protestant chaplains. The chaplains workcollaboratively to provide ecumenical prayer services.COMMUTER STUDENT SERVICESCommuter <strong>Student</strong> Services is housed withinCSI. Through the guidance of its staff, as well asthe Commuter <strong>Student</strong> Organization, CommuterAssistants, and Commuter Senators, commuterstudents can find out how to become involved incampus life. Services also include maps, timetables, aCommuter Hotline, and the availability of off-campushousing. For those unplanned circumstances, theoffice will lend helpful tools such as ice scrapers andumbrellas. Commuters can relax between classesin the <strong>University</strong> <strong>Center</strong> and Post Hall Commuter<strong>Student</strong> Lounges, where they have access tocomputers, printers, and lockers. Five additionallounge areas are situated throughout the campus.VOLUNTEER SERVICES<strong>Adelphi</strong> <strong>University</strong> encourages its students toparticipate in community service and volunteerprograms. Through voluntary service and communityinvolvement, students become active andparticipating citizens in our society. By matching theneeds of local agencies, houses of worship, shelters,etc., with the interests of students and studentorganizations, CSI assists in coordinating volunteeractivities.Volunteer initiatives developed by CSI include theFreshman Community Action Program (FCAP) andAlternative Spring Break. FCAP offers incomingfreshmen an immediate connection to <strong>Adelphi</strong>’scommitment as a <strong>University</strong> engaged in communityservice and social involvement. Alternative SpringBreak engages students in social awareness andaction by offering community service projects. Sinceits inception, Alternative Spring Break in Costa Ricahas grown annually with increased participation.<strong>Student</strong>s are able to match their volunteer serviceinterests to organizations and facilities in need ofassistance on the Volunteer Opportunities list on theCSI Web site: students.adelphi.edu/sa/csi/volunteeropportunities.phpc e n t e r <strong>for</strong> student involv e m e n t
