Borough ServicesWORK IN THE PARKSDrainage Work at Domaine HowardMajor work to raise and drain the multi-purpose area at Parcdu Domaine-Howard took place in 2011. These improvementsaim to prevent this section of the park from becoming too wetduring successive rains. The work will allow park users to enjoyvarious recreational and sports activities anytime… and keeptheir feet dry!Trees for the BoroughThe Borough is eager to offer its residents a healthy, natural,and green environment. In 2011, 56 trees were planted alongBoulevard de Portland, between Boulevard Lionel-Groulx andRue des Érables. The tree planting project will continue in 2012and 2013 with the addition of 85 new trees on Rue King Ouest.Community gardenThe community garden project, next to the entrance of BoisBeckett (Beckett woods) should open this summer. Close to100 small gardens will be made available, with priority toBorough residents. This area will give residents a chance to getto know each other while enjoying an outdoor activity. Oncework has begun, residents will be able to register for their owngarden plot.Organizing street partiesSTREET PARTIESA street party is a great way to get to know yourneighbourhood in the Borough of Jacques-Cartier.Where to start?• Check the interest level in your neighbourhood• Create an organizing committee (three or four neighbours)• Come up with a theme for the celebration• Contact your Borough• Obtain permission and the required permitsExamples of activities:• Corn roast• Crafts• Treasure hunt• Bonfire• Music, dance• Entertainment• Inflatable gamesThe Borough can provide you with an activity kit (bag) andhelp you organize your party (advice, technical assistance,funds). Contact the recreational technician, at 819-822-6043.WHERE CAN I COOL OFFTHIS SUMMER?Is the heat getting to you? Are you looking for a place to cooloff? The Borough of Jacques-Cartier offers residents a publicoutdoor pool in Parc de Saint-Alphonse-de-Liguori and asplash pad at Parc de Saint Boniface.Beginning mid-May, as soon as the weather is warm enough,the splash pad will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. on weekdays andfrom 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends.
