<strong>Borough</strong> ServicesWORK IN THE PARKSDrainage Work at Domaine HowardMajor work to raise and drain the multi-purpose area at Parcdu Domaine-Howard took place in 2011. These improvementsaim to prevent this section <strong>of</strong> the park from becoming too wetduring successive rains. The work will allow park users to enjoyvarious recreational and sports activities anytime… and keeptheir feet dry!Trees for the <strong>Borough</strong>The <strong>Borough</strong> is eager to <strong>of</strong>fer its resi<strong>de</strong>nts a healthy, natural,and green environment. In 2011, 56 trees were planted alongBoulevard <strong>de</strong> Portland, between Boulevard Lionel-Groulx andRue <strong>de</strong>s Érables. The tree planting project will continue in 2012and 2013 with the addition <strong>of</strong> 85 new trees on Rue King Ouest.Community gar<strong>de</strong>nThe community gar<strong>de</strong>n project, next to the entrance <strong>of</strong> BoisBeckett (Beckett woods) should open this summer. Close to100 small gar<strong>de</strong>ns will be ma<strong>de</strong> available, with priority to<strong>Borough</strong> resi<strong>de</strong>nts. This area will give resi<strong>de</strong>nts a chance to getto know each other while enjoying an outdoor activity. Oncework has begun, resi<strong>de</strong>nts will be able to register for their owngar<strong>de</strong>n plot.Organizing street partiesSTREET PARTIESA street party is a great way to get to know yourneighbourhood in the <strong>Borough</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Jacques</strong>-<strong>Cartier</strong>.Where to start?• Check the interest level in your neighbourhood• Create an organizing committee (three or four neighbours)• Come up with a theme for the celebration• Contact your <strong>Borough</strong>• Obtain permission and the required permitsExamples <strong>of</strong> activities:• Corn roast• Crafts• Treasure hunt• Bonfire• Music, dance• Entertainment• Inflatable gamesThe <strong>Borough</strong> can provi<strong>de</strong> you with an activity kit (bag) andhelp you organize your party (advice, technical assistance,funds). Contact the recreational technician, at 819-822-6043.WHERE CAN I COOL OFFTHIS SUMMER?Is the heat getting to you? Are you looking for a place to cool<strong>of</strong>f? The <strong>Borough</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Jacques</strong>-<strong>Cartier</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers resi<strong>de</strong>nts a publicoutdoor pool in Parc <strong>de</strong> Saint-Alphonse-<strong>de</strong>-Liguori and asplash pad at Parc <strong>de</strong> Saint Boniface.Beginning mid-May, as soon as the weather is warm enough,the splash pad will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. on weekdays andfrom 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends.
