RELIANCE ® <strong>333</strong><strong>WASHER</strong>/<strong>DISINFECTOR</strong>APPLICATIONThe Reliance <strong>333</strong> Washer/Disinfector isintended for automated cleaning, lowleveldisinfection, and drying of reusablegeneral surgical instruments prior tosterilization in outpatient/same-day surgerydepartments, surgical centers, andambulatory care centers. Reusable,hard-surfaced, general surgical instruments,minimally invasive surgery (MIS)rigid instruments, and microsurgicalinstruments may be processed in thisunit.DESCRIPTIONThe Reliance <strong>333</strong> Washer/Disinfector isa single door, counter height washer/disinfector, designed for undercounterinstallation, or as a freestanding unit.The standard pull-down door facilitatesunit loading. A load-lifting door is alsoavailable (see Options).The washer/disinfector features state-ofthe-artmicrocomputer control with userfriendlyoperator interface.The washer/disinfector is pre-programmedwith three specific applicationcycles (INSTRUMENT 1, MICRO 2, andMIS 3), including a selectable lubricationphase. Three additional cycles (CYCLE4, CYCLE 5, and CYCLE 6) are preprogrammedwith factory-set values. FEATURESFront-loading drop-down door is constructedof #316 stainless steel coveredwith a plastic panel. The tempered glasswindow allows the operator to view thechamber interior while a cycle is inprogress. The door panel and glass windowremain cool to the touch.• Pressing the UNLOCK pushbuttonopens the door.• Safety door switch prevents the startof a cycle if the door is not fully closed.Insulated construction of chamberexterior reduces heat loss and noise levelto the work area.Wash chamber is constructed of 20gauge, #316L stainless steel (No. 4 finish).Stainless-steel chamber inhibitscorrosive action of detergents.Interior fluorescent light allows theoperator to view (process/load) duringthe cycle, and has a 20,000-hour lifeexpectancy.Rotary spray assembly is constructedof #304L stainless steel (No. 4 finish) andpositioned at the top of the wash chamberto assure complete coverage of allload surfaces. The accessory manifoldconnector, located at the back of thewash chamber, automatically connectsto the accessory when pushed intoposition.Heating coils, constructed of Incoloyiron-nickel-chromium alloy, located atthe bottom of the wash chamber, raiseand maintain water temperature to 140°F(60°C) during the Wash phase, and to203°F (95°C) during the Thermal Rinsephase. Air in the chamber during theoptional Drying phase will reach a maximumtemperature of 200°F (93.3°C) if thedrying temperature is set at LOW, or willreach 240°F (115°C) if temperature is setat HIGH.Removable debris screen, of #304 Lstainless steel (No. 4 finish), located atthe bottom of the sump, prevents largedebris from entering the piping systemand pump.Detergent injection system is designedto reduce handling of chemicals, and tominimize waste and residue.Three-shelf detergent compartment,located to the right of the wash chamber,can hold three different types of chemicals:*Renu-Klenz‚ Neutral pH DetergentKlenzyme‚ Enzymatic Presoak andCleaner, and Hinge Free‚ ConcentrateInstrument Lubricant. Chemicals areavailable in easy-to-install, biodegradable,bag-in-a-box-type containers.Chemical pumps are located under thewash chamber door, behind the serviceaccess panel. An empty bag is detectedby a vacuum switch triggering an alarmalerting the operator a container needsto be replaced.Stainless-steel pump is 3/4 HP, with a50 U.S. gal/minute at 40 ft. (189 L/min at12.2 m) capacity. All treatments areunder pressure of the pump. Pressure atspray jets is 10 psig (1.12 bar). Pumpimpeller shaft and casing are fitted witha mechanical seal. Pump impeller ismounted directly on the motor shaft.Pump motor is thermally protected andis equipped with a totally enclosed, fancooledmagnetic starter and sealedbearings requiring no periodic lubrication.Non-vented system allows chambervapors to be exhausted to the roomthrough a condenser and a HEPA filterlocated at the back of the unit.Drain discharge cool down featureassures all water is drained from thewash chamber sump to the buildingdraining system. Cold water is automaticallyinjected into the sump when thewater temperature is too high. Drain dischargecooldown will keep the temperaturein the drain piping below 140°F(60°C).Unit has three adjustable wheels: twoin front and one in the back. All fill valvesare mounted at the back of the unit.Draining valves and pumps are locatedunder the wash chamber.Washer is interpiped and interwired,requiring only one connection for eachservice and utility hookup.SAFETY FEATURESA safety door switch prevents a cyclefrom starting when the door is opened.CONTROL PANELA microcomputer monitors and controlswasher/disinfector operations and functions.Cycle progresses automaticallythrough the designated phases, as programmed.Membrane-type touch pads allow operatorto select, start, stop, or abort cycles.Display window features a 2-line x 16-character, easy-to-read vacuum fluorescentdisplay. Display shows cycle status,time, temperature, alarms, and instructionalmessages. Display also indicatesabnormal conditions that may occur duringa cycle.Supervisor Mode allows modification ofcycle parameters (within a range of factory-setvalues), and time display andprintout units (standard AM/PM or 24-hour/military [MIL]).Service Mode allows service techniciansto perform preventive maintenance andtesting, and facilitates troubleshooting.TEST cycle is available for service techniciansonly. This cycle simplifies testingprocedures.Maintenance due alarms recall andcycle/day count recall system remindsthe operator when a complete preventivemaintenance check is required.Internal battery backs-up all cyclememory for up to 10 years. If a powerfailure occurs during a cycle, the controlbattery backup system assures the cyclememory will be retained. Even if the RAMbattery should fail, factory set values willbe saved in the control main flashmemory.CYCLE DESCRIPTIONNOTE: ADVISORY NOTE: STERIS doesnot intend, recommend nor represent inany way that this Reliance <strong>333</strong> Washer/Disinfector be used for the terminaldisinfection or sterilization of anyregulated medical device. RelianceWasher/Disinfectors are intended only toperform an initial step in the reprocessingof soiled, reusable medical devices. Ifmedical devices will be contacting bloodor compromised tissues, such devicesmust be terminally reprocessed inaccordance with current Good HospitalPractices before each use in humanpatients.NOTE: Always refer to instrumentmanufacturer for recommended cleaningprocedures.The Reliance <strong>333</strong> Washer/Disinfectorfeatures three factory-set cycles:INSTRUMENT 1, MICRO 2 (microsurgery),and MIS 3 (minimially invasive surgery)to accommodate typical loads andprocessing requirements. Each cyclecan be programmed to include up toeight separate treatments.2


Standard available treatments include:• two pre-washes• one pulsed enzyme wash• one pulsed enzyme rinse• one wash• one rinse• one thermal rinse (with lubricant)• (an optional drying phase is alsoavailable.)Once a cycle is selected, the washer/disinfector automatically processes theload through the pre-programmed treatments.Cycle values are locked in andcannot be changed until the cycle iscompleted.Three additional cycles (CYCLE 4,CYCLE 5, and CYCLE 6) may be programmedto suit specific needs.CYCLE 6 may be programmed as a specialDRYING cycle if the optional dryingsystem is ordered (see Options). ADECONTAM cycle is provided to preventthe formation of biofilm or scale inthe wash chamber and piping without theneed for additional cycle programming.On initial startup, pressing the ON/OFFpushbutton will place the control and unitin the operating mode. (It is recommendedthe unit be left on at all times,except for major service or maintenanceprocedures.)When the desired touch pad symbol ispressed to start a cycle, the washer/disinfector will automatically process theload through the following factory-settreatments (see Table 1, page 5):• PRE-WASH 1: Sump fills with cold tapwater from the building supply line;load is pre-washed for 45 seconds(factory set), then water is sent todrain.• PRE-WASH 2: Sump fills with cold tapwater from the building supply line;load is pre-washed for three minutes(adjustable from three to 15 minutes),then water is sent to drain.• PULSED ENZYME:Wash: Sump fills with enzyme detergent-injectedhot tap water from thebuilding supply line; load is pulsed forfour minutes (adjustable from four to15 minutes), then solution is sent todrain.Rinse: Sump fills with hot tap waterfrom the building supply line. Enzymerinse time is 20 seconds (factory-set).Solution is sent to drain.• WASH:Wash: Sump fills with detergentinjected hot tap water from the buildingsupply line (minimum 110°F[43°C] and heated up to 140°F[60°C]). Load is sprayed for three minutes(heated three to 15 minutes),then solution is sent to drain.Rinse: Load is pulsed with hot tapwater from the building supply line.Rinse time is 20 seconds (factoryset).• THERMAL RINSE: Sump fills with hotpurified water from the building supplyline, or from optional purified watergenerator. Solution is heated to 180-203°F (82.2-95°C). Purified water issprayed on the load until the presettemperature is reached. Lubricant isadded to the purified water duringfilling (if selected). Once the presettemperature is reached, solution issprayed over the load for one minute(adjustable from one to 15 minutes),then solution is sent to drain.NOTE: Items processed during theThermal RInse phase will reach amaximum of 183°F (83.8°C) if thermalrinse temperature is set at 180°F(82.2°C), or 206°F (96.6°C) if thermalrinse temperature is set at 203°F (95°C).• Optional DRYING: The drying temperaturecan be preset LOW or HIGH.Drying time is five minutes (adjustablefrom one to 60 minutes). Door can beopened at any time during the Dryingphase.NOTE: Items processed during theDrying phase will reach a maximumtemperature of 200°F (93°C) if dryingtemperature is set at LOW, or 240°F(115°C) if drying temperature is set atHIGH.OPTIONSLoad Lifting Door (automated door liftmechanism) facilitates loading andunloading of manifolded accessoryracks. When the door is open, the loadlifting door allows the operator to raise orlower the door by pressing the DOOR UP/DOOR DOWN toggle switch. The doorcan be raised or lowered and stopped atany height to provide an adjustable,ergonomic loading/unloading platform.Gearbox motor and chain drive mechanismare located under the unit.Drying System, located at the bottom ofthe unit, consists of a pre-filter, blower,HEPA filter, and electrical heating elements.The heating elements can be activatedin a special high/low power configurationto enhance the heating process.A second HEPA filter, located at the outletof the wash chamber, reduces the risk ofcontamination in the room (caused bycontaminated items treated in the washchamber). Drying cycle time is adjustablefrom one to 60 minutes.ACCESSORIESMIS (minimally invasive surgery)Rack (for MIS 3 cycle only) allowsoperator to clean rigid MIS instrumentsefficiently. The manifolded rackautomatically connects to the washer/disinfector to maximize efficiency ofcleaning and low-level disinfection. MISinstruments are connected to specialspray jets, lumened holders, andirrigation tubes, to allow a constant flowof solution inside hard-to-reach areas ofthe instruments. Extra trays can be usedto clean small miscellaneous instrumentcomponents such as handles,connections, end caps, compressionsprings, etc.NOTE: The MIS Rack must be used withthe MIS 3 cycle, including the enzymetreatment, to assure efficient cleaning ofrigid MIS instruments.Instrument Tray with Cover is approximately10-1/2 x 21" (267 x 533 mm).Two-Level Instrument Rack can holdup to four large instruments trays (two oneach level), eight small instrument trays(four on each level), or two or four microsurgerytrays. Rack can also be used toclean miscellaneous instrument trays.Remote Printer Kit can help the supervisormonitor cycles and cycle values, aswell as any abnormal conditions (faults)that may occur during a cycle. An RS-232 connection is located on back ofcontactor box.Countertop is available for the tops offreestanding washer/disinfectors. Seismic Anchorage Kit is available forhigh risk seismic zones.Two types of water treatment systemsare available:1. Purified Water Generator: Generatesheated deionized water fromcustomer building hot tap water.2. Water Softener System: Treats andeliminates hardness of building waterto improve customer water quality(see SD748 for details).MOUNTING ARRANGEMENTThe washer/disinfector is designed as afully enclosed cabinet for recessing(undercounter) or freestandinginstallation.Casters and flexible utilities connectionsare provided for the washer/disinfectorto allow the unit to be moved into and outof its mounting location for maintenancepurposes.TECHNICAL DATAResistive Temperature Devices (RTDs)sense temperature inside the sump andwash chamber. These signals, convertedinto electrical impulses, provideaccurate control inputs and readoutsthroughout the entire cycle. Individualtemperature calibrations can be madeby a trained service technician.Water level sensors monitor water levelof the sump in the wash chamber. If waterlevel and/or temperature sensor failureoccurs, an alarm will sound.PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCEA global network of skilled service specialistscan provide periodic inspectionsand adjustments to help assure low-costpeak performance. STERIS representativescan provide information regardingannual maintenance agreements.NOTES1. Pipe sizes shown on rough-in drawingindicate terminal outlets only.
