BongosPercussion is in my heart andbongo playing is my passionI live in Caracas, Venezuela and I have been involved with music for about 20 years. As a session drummer I haverecorded more than 20 albums with renowned artists from the most diverse genres and styles, besides participatingin musical projects for TV commercials, movies and soap-operas.The Bongo Project.The whole idea of this project consists in playing with the bongo certain themes that lack any kind ofpercussion in their original versions. This forces me to play in musical schemes that are quite strange andnew for the bongo. Obviously, I avoided selecting themes that had a Latin sound and really thrived for moreadventurous and challenging stuff. Of course, the project’s main trait is to show the World a unique vision ofthe bongo and its unlimited possibilities. This way, I have recorded themes from Rimsky Korsakov, Barriere,Bobby McFerrin, Yo-Yo Ma, Andy McKee, Don Ross and ventured into the world of tango and milonga, joropo,golpe and other traditional genres. Public reaction to these musical pieces had been so wonderful that Ihave decided to continue the search of new challenges and musical horizons for the bongo.In June 2008 I found Meinl Percussion’s awesome web page and I read about a contest hosted by the site. I was surprisedto find out that it was for bongo videos (a lucky coincidence!). I seized the opportunity and uploaded someof my jobs on the Bongo Project. So it happened that the company offered me their endorsement.My dream is to take this project beyond physical and musical frontiers.
