We accept a broadrange of original intermediate to advanced-level designs tobe published as how-to articles. Many of our projects involvestitching. Submitted designs and instructions should describehow to make jewelry using specific beading and bead-relatedtechniques. Each piece is tested by a Bead&Button editorand photographed for publication. Instructions are editedor rewritten to ensure that the project can be made byBead&Button readers. Submissions must be exclusiveto Bead&Button and BeadAndButton.com.Project articlesPROJECT ARTICLES are considered for print andonline publication based on original artistic quality andcraftsmanship. The acceptance process involves inputfrom several editors who consider the originality andsophistication of the concept, the precision with which thework was created, interesting techniques, desirable colorcombinations and textures, and the drape, style and flairof each piece. Projects that combine materials and shapesin an innovative way, feature materials that can be easilyobtained or substituted, and expose readers to challengingand rewarding beading processes are more likely to beselected. Projects using black-colored beads are less likely tobe accepted because they are difficult to photograph.Use the checklist below before offering an original projectfor publication in Bead&Button. We look for beadedjewelry, and occasionally other objects, that feature:√ A well-conceived and pleasing, balanced design√ A high level of craftsmanship√ Unique, modified or combined techniques√ A striking color palette√ Innovative use of quality materials√ Adaptable elements that encourage creativity√ Current jewelry or beading trends.Projects may be published as feature articles, on ourWeb site, or in Chic & Easy, Clearly Crystals, Claymaker,Wire Expressions or another section of the magazine.TO SUBMIT A PROJECT ARTICLE, send a highresolutionelectronic image or a photograph with a shortdescription of the project to the address listed under “Whereto send submissions” in this document. You will receive acontract to sign and return, after which payment will besent to you.Designer’s pieces are returned with a complimentarymagazine after the project has been remade andphotographed, and the instructions have been edited orrewritten for the Bead&Button reader.Additional opportunitiesTIPS & TECHNIQUES features short items sent in byreaders that help make beading easier, faster, neater, or morefun. Send your tip with a photo, rough drawing, or sampleto the address under “Where to send submissions” in thisdocument. If your tip is accepted for publication, we’ll sendyou a contract for payment. Once we get the contract backfrom you, we’ll pay you for your tip.PATTERNS provides a place for readers to share chartedbeadwork patterns. To submit a pattern, send us anelectronic or hard copy of the chart along with a finishedpiece, if possible. If your pattern is accepted for publication,we’ll send you a contract for payment. Once we get thecontract back from you, we’ll pay you for your pattern.BEAD SOUP offers short articles about new products,books, beading-related events and other information ourreaders would like to know. To submit a new product orbook for review, send the item to the address below. Tosubmit other information, write to Bead&Button about youridea and we will contact you. When the piece arrives, it will bephotographed in our studio and scheduled for publication.There is no payment for Your Work submissions; designersreceive a complimentary magazine.
