Would you like to work withcommunity groups in thedevelopment of communityscale renewable energyschemes in Wales?There are opportunities <strong>for</strong>landowners and/or commercialdevelopers to enter intojoint ventures with socialenterprises in the developmentof community scale renewableenergy schemes across Waleswith the Ynni’r Fro programme.The Welsh Government’s Ynni’r FroProgramme uses European StructuralFunds to provide support and fundingto encourage the development ofcommunity scale renewable energyschemes across Wales.Ynni’r Fro offers social enterprises grantaid, loans, free and independent handson advice and in<strong>for</strong>mation. So far therehave been over 150 expressions ofinterest <strong>for</strong> the programme since itwas launched in 2009.
Business benefits• Planning permission. Planningauthorities require communityinvolvement in most cases.For example medium size windoutside the TAN 8 SSAs.• Genuine community buy-in willincrease the possibility of gettingplanning permission, even where itis not strictly required.• Working with community groups candecrease risk and could turn projectswhich are not economically viable intoprofitable, commercial opportunities.• The programme has a dedicated teamof seven development officers, who willliaise with all parties involved, helpingto develop productive and successfulrelationships and ensuring clearcommunication.
