The villagesof Arengkeguand Simon are in Nadungyet Sub-County.We found a new village was being built here. There were also several youth making granariesto earn a living. Akol was one of them.“When I grew up, elders were the ones owningcattle. Cows were the way of life of the peoplein this area and another way of life was cropfarming. There used to be good harvest, butthese days the season has changed and thereis a lot of hunger. I have tried crop farmingover the past two years but all in vain. The onlywork I have thoughtof and found profitable ismaking these granaries. I sell them for moneyas well as in exchange for things like goats forthose who cannot offer cash. I also reservesome granaries for food storage at my home.I got the skills and knowledge of makinggranaries from elders because when I wasyoung, I used to follow them to the bush tocollect ngatetelei (flexible sticks for makinggranaries) and when we came back Icould also sit and watch them makethem. So this is the business I amdoing currently to survive.”Arengkegu &SimonAcherer Parish36
