Iam now in my third year.I had ambitions <strong>of</strong> reaching university so Iprayed hard to God to hear me. He fulfilled thisthrough one <strong>of</strong> my uncles who took responsibilityto pay my fees.I wish to work with development partners andlocal communities to empower both the illiterateand literate youth on life skills. I have takenpart in various researches and surveys in ourregion which have exposed me to differentcommunities in Karamoja.I am married and blessed with one son and I ampraying and working hard to have a happy lifewith my family, relatives, friends and the rest <strong>of</strong>the community. My motherwas making a livingfrom brewingthen. She tookover the role <strong>of</strong>both parents and life was not so hard. All <strong>of</strong> uswere studying in our family through the help <strong>of</strong>charity sisters and donors. We were a bit brightand we worked together to study as long asmoney was there. My brothers are at universityand this comes from hard work and friendshipwith people. My mother is a friendly, flexiblewoman. She’s determined and always advisesus to work hard.The only challenge we faced in our family is thatwhen our father died, all our relatives disappeared.Only now are they coming slowly and introducingthemselves to us. They come and say, “I’m yourauntie” – unlike before when they couldn’t eventhrow a coin <strong>of</strong> 500 for a pen or book.I managed up to Senior 4 level because mymum told me to wait for my brothers to completeso they can help me to continue with myeducation. I make beads at home when I amfree and I also go for jobs when they call them.5
