The outcome is an enriched learningexperience which develops civic responsibilityand helps to build stronger communities.This fall, the American International Schoolof Zagreb hosted a community wide ServiceLearning reception and workshop. The purposeof the event was twofold: to raise awarenessof the power of service learning and to beginto build a community network that fostersand supports service learning in schools around Zagreb. The workshopand reception featured renowned service learning expert and author,Cathryn Berger Kaye who energized and inspired nearly 80 teachers,directors, and community members for the 2 ½ day event. On the occasion of The International Day forthe Elimination of Violence against Women, Avon Croatia donated additional50.000 kuna for the cause.After 20 years, due to reduced funding, AWH is threatened with closure,so the goal of the campaign was to raise funds for sustainability of shelterfor women and also raise awareness of the problem and contributeto the mission of empowerment of women.
