I then stated to him that whenhe woke up he would have entirely ceased tocare for cigarettes, that he would become disgustedat the sight of one, and that the odorfrom them would be so obnoxious and offensiveto him that he would rather take a snake in hishand than touch another cigarette.I then induced somnambulism, and while inthis state offered him a cigarette. He absolutelyrefused to take one, and when I slipped a box ofthem in his coat pocket he instantly threw themon the floor, saying he would rather have a snakein his pocket than those horrible things.I then stated to him that as long as he livedhe would never have anything but disgust andcontempt for cigarettes. These suggestions wererepeated every afternoon for two weeks. Alsoother suggestions were given in regard to theimprovement of his general health. From thefirsttreatment the young man could not be in-
