6. HERITAGE AND ICONIC TRAILSExisting Council and State Government Heritage and Iconic trails are depicted on the individual trailmaps in yellow. Connection to these has been considered in the development of new trails. Markingof these existing trails will not be undertaken as a part of the Whadjuk Trails Project under Lotterwestfunding. It will however be ensured that trails physically link, allowing for integration of current orfuture marking of these existing trails by individual Councils. All existing trails will have links from theWebsite to promote their presence. Where existing and Whadjuk trails coincide, it is proposed thatalternate marking should be considered, however local trail markers will need to be supplied andinstalled by individual councils.The following Iconic and Heritage Trails have been identified (Appendix A) and links to them will beassured. The Whadjuk Trail Network links with:Existing Trails within Bold Park, including Karbomanup Iconic trail in Bold ParkExisting trails within Kings ParkThe Mudurup Noongar Cultural Trail along the Cottesloe ForeshoreCity of Subiaco walking trails.Wembley Golf Course and the Cambridge proposed Western Bush and Lakelands TrailCambridge Heritage TrailClaremont Meanders including Cobblers and Convicts, Yargine Track, Trail of Memories,Rediscovering the TerracePathways being installed in connection with the re-vegetation of bushland at the LakeClaremont conservation reserve.Mosman Park Heritage Trail (via the Minim Cove Interpretive Trail, which links the coast tothe Swan-Canning estuary.)The Swan River Trust’s preferred route along the Estuary’s northern foreshore for theirIconic Trail.A proposed link to Herdsman Lake and Lake Monger endorsed by the City of Stirling.Further links to existing trails within neighbouring councils have been considered for future link up.The map below shows the relationship between existing iconic trails (above) and the intendedWhadjuk Trails in the Western suburbs.Page 11 of 29
7. SIGNAGEAll Signage will conform with the Signage Framework which was approved by the WESROCExecutive in March 2011, and will be uniform throughout the network to ensure continuity.7.1 DIRECTIONAL MARKERSManufactured in 3mm marine grade stainless steel and acid etched, directional markers (110 x 110 x80mm) will be left, right and straight ahead (See below left). They will be for insertion into existingpathways, and attachment to bollards. In Botanic Gardens and Parks Areas (BGPA), the signagemay be slightly reduced, proportionately. The generic sector of the signs will remain constant acrossthe network (see example on right) and the typestyle (PAPYRUS) will remain constant. Icons andtrail names will vary within these parameters.Page 12 of 29
