11. FUNDING OF WHADJUK TRAILSThe Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) and Lotterywest are funding the Bush to Beach(Stage 1), as the pilot project for the Whadjuk Trails. Future trails will follow the same plan for fundingrequirements and applications.Attached is the Council Participation Table. The Swan River Trust is currently working towards theinstallation of the Swan Canning Iconic Trail. WESROC is working with Swan River Trust at points ofintercept to insure that trail linkages are excellent and opportunities to access third party fundingmaximised. Our Coast to River Trail (Waardun Beelya Biirdi) is congruent with the Swan CanningIconic Trail through the Town of Mosman Park and Sire of Peppermint Grove. The development ofthis trail and other trails in the area together will enable interpretation for all trails to be undertakensimultaneously, inducing a substantial cost saving. It would be beneficial for representatives ofWESROC member's heritage, library and museum section to pool resources, ensuring that that allavailable information is utilised and costs minimised.Funding applications for the Regional Network of Trails (Whadjuk Trails) are to be divided into 6stages as follows:Bush to BeachNgura Biirdi (Wetland Trail)Wardun Beelya Biirdi (Coast to River Trail)Karda Biirdi (Monitor Lizard Trail)Karak Biirdi (Carnaby’s Cockatoo Trail)Waarlitj Biirdi (Little Eagle Trail)Ngura Biirdi and Wardun Beelya are proposed to be installedsimultaneouslyPage 16 of 29
