C. Violations requiring administrative action as established in the Student Handbook will entail:1. Where the violation and disciplinary action involves in-school or out-of-school suspension, the participantshall not participate in practice or contest during the time of suspension.2. Where suspension from school has resulted, the participant may be subject to suspension or expulsion fromthe activities team for the remainder of the season.D. Theft or malicious destruction of any school, non-school, or individual equipment or property is not to be tolerated.Participants found to be responsible for the theft or malicious destruction of property, will be suspended from the team. Adecision regarding further competition will be made by the building athletic/activities director, and the designated buildingadministrator.3. Have a physical and/or interim questionnaire on file.4. Have proof of medical insurance or waiver.Transfer students must meet additional requirements for eligibility.Eligibility Grading Policy1. To start a season: Student-Athlete must satisfy criteria of the grade policy from the semester/grade check period immediately priorto the season.A. Step One: If a student passed the minimum required classes at the previous semester but scores below a 2.0 GPA or receivesmore than one F grades in the most recent grade check period, that student will be placed on “Probation”.B. Step Two: If a student passed the minimum required classes at the previous semester but scores below a 2.0 GPA andreceives more than one F grades in the most recent grade check period, that student will start the season on “Suspension 1”.• Only one summer/on-line class may be accepted upon appeal to the principal.2. During the season: Student-Athlete must satisfy criteria of the grade policy at the appropriate grading periods(progress, quarter, semester) as defined by the Athletic Director.A. Step One: If a student scores below a 2.0 GPA or receives more than one F grades, that student will be placed on“Probation”.B. Step Two: If a student fails to meet the criteria of 2.0 GPA or no more than one F grades after “Probation”, that student willbe placed on “Suspension 1”.C. Step Three: If a student fails to meet the criteria of 2.0 GPA or F grades after “Suspension 1”, that student will be placed on“Suspension 2”.Probation: Students may practice and play in games but will spend time in study hall, tutoring, or an improvement plan, as defined bythe Head Coach. The student will be given ten (10) school days to improve grades. If the student fails either grade criteria after ten(10) days, that student will move to “Suspension 1”. Students who satisfy the Eligibility Policy on or before the ten (10) days may beremoved from “Probation”.Suspension 1: Student may practice but not play in games. Student will be given ten (10) days to improve grades to meet the EligibilityPolicy. The student will spend time in study hall, tutoring, or improvement plan, as defined by the Head Coach. If the student fails toachieve either grade criteria after ten (10) school days, that student will be moved to “Suspension 2”. Students who satisfy theEligibility Policy on or before the ten (10) days may be removed from “Suspension 1”.Suspension 2: Student may not practice or play in games. Student will spend time in study hall, tutoring, or an improvement plan asdefined by the Head Coach. The student will be given ten (10) school days to improve grades to meet the Eligibility Policy. The studentwill not be eligible to participate until all criteria have been met and will remain on “Probation”. Failure to achieve the criteria of theEligibility Policy will result in removal from the team for the remainder of the season.*Any extenuating circumstances may be appealed to the Administrative Team.**These standards are the minimum standard and individual coaches will have the discretion to make their programs more stringent.***Students may make up one summer school/on-line credit upon appeal to the CEO.All student participants in high school activities and their parents will be required to read and sign a copy of this policy acknowledgingtheir understanding of the guidelines herein.Letter GuidelinesHOW <strong>TO</strong> EARN A “BLUE N” /ATHLETIC LETTER AT NHS:Our philosophy is to involve as many students as possible. Earning a varsity letter means the student has met the practice demands,standards of good sportsmanship, and coachability.1. The student must complete the entire season.2. The student must attend all practices unless excused by the coach for illness or an emergency beyond the student's control.3. Student must have returned all equipment loaned to him/her or NHS in all years of participation.- 22 -
