Installation and use of scaleYour ADE scale is a quality product. In order to achieve best possible results please follow strictly theinstructions of this <strong>Operating</strong> <strong>Manual</strong>:Check carton contents- Weighing platform incl. column connection- <strong>Column</strong>- Display incl. connecting cable- Assembling material consisting of: Head plate with adhesive tape- <strong>Column</strong> cover plate- Screws- Mains adapter- <strong>Operating</strong> <strong>Manual</strong>Assembling:Remove all packing material and store same for use in case of warrantee claim.- First pull the connecting cable being connected to the display through the head plate (Velcroside up).- Lead the cable down the column (head plate still loose)- Place the column into the column connection- Use the plug connection and fix the cable using the cable holder- Mount column cover plate from underneath by using 3 of the screws and pull them tight.- Now fasten the head plate with 3 screws on the upper part of the column.- The display is finally connected to the head plate by using the Velcro.Before weighingPower supply of the scale: By mains adapter (12V 300 mA) and rechargeable batteries- The display is already equipped with rechargeable batteries.- To charge the power-pack for the first time please use the mains adapter.- Complete first charging needs 24 hrs.- Place the scale in its working area.- Make sure to place the scale on an even ground.- The scale is now ready for use.Caution:Please operate the scale only with the original ADE mains adapter that has been delivered.- Always fit the adapter to the scale BEFORE connecting to an electrical outlet- Disconnect from the electrical outlet BEFORE disconnecting the adapter from the scale.3 050100-Rev001-<strong>M20610</strong>


- The mains adapter is not waterproof. Therefore make sure NOT to use the scale where watercan penetrate.- In case the mains adapter became wet or show visible damages the scale can no longer beoperated by using this mains adapter. In this case please contact your local dealer or servicepartner.WeighingTo take the weight- Press key ON to start the scale. `8888´will appear on the display which is an automaticfunction test and zero setting. When `0.0´appears you are in the kg weighing mode. In additiondisplay will show the symbol `o´ to confirm stability of the zero setting.- The scale may now be used.- Step on the platform and stand still.- After display is showing your weight and symbol `o´ appeared the most accurate result hasbeen reached.- To turn off the scale press key OFF for minimum 3 seconds. This is essential if scale is usedon batteries. Using the scale on mains it may remain permanently switched on or can be shutoff manually by pressing key.Change unit functionYou may select the weight unit between kg and lb mode. Coming from the factory the scale isswitched to kg mode. To change into lb mode press UNIT/WEIGHT key.Caution- Please check weighing mode after switching to get proper result.Set zeroYou may set any displayed weighing result back to zero `0.0´by pressing the ZERO key. Theadvantage is to weigh shoes or dress separately.- Place objects on the scale.- Press ZERO key.- Unload the scale.- The weight displayed before is showing a negative value and will be deducted automaticallyduring the next weighing procedure.- The negative value will not be stored.050100-Rev001-<strong>M20610</strong> 4


Tare functionThe tare function (also known as mother & child function) allows to store a fixed weight that will bededucted each weighing procedure unless deleted or replaced by another.- Take weight as described before and store the result by pressing the TARE key.- The scale is now in NET weighing mode which is also indicated on the display.- If for example you stored the weight of the mother or nurse, she can step now on the scalewith the baby in her arms.- The weight displayed is the weight of the baby.- The scale identified the added weight. You may now use the scale for as many weighingprocedures and the stored value will always be deducted.Definition and use of BMI (Body Mass Index)The Body Mass Index is the ratio between height and weight squared. The BMI is meanwhileaccepted world wide – also by WHO (World Health Organization) - helping to evaluate the state ofnutrition and with that also the state of health of a person. The result is a tolerance value.- Press the ON/ZERO/OFF key to start the scale and wait until the display shows 0.0.- Step on the scale and take your weight.- Press the HOLD/BMI key for at least 3 seconds.- By doing that you selected the storage mode for your own height in cm. You will also find theword `HIGH´ on the display.- Once entered the mode you find a given value that you will probably have to change.- The first digit (normally a 1) is blinking. Change indication if necessary by pressing theUNIT/WEIGHT key by using the numeric key stored (0-9).- Press the HOLD/BMI key again and you will get to the next digit.- Repeat the procedure until your exact height is shown on the display.- Press TARE key for confirmation and you will get back into the normal weighing mode.- Press again HOLD/BMI key shortly like you do when activating the HOLD function. The arrowwill appear in the display for a short moment and disappear when the display is showing youinstead your weight and alternating your BMI.- To deactivate the BMI mode press again HOLD/BMI key.Evaluation of the Body Mass IndexBMI below 18• The patient is not showing enough weight. Control nutrition to put on weight.BMI between 18 and 20• The patient is slightly under weighed. If he feels well there is no need for a change.BMI between 20 and 25• The patient is in the range of normal weight.BMI between 25 and 30• The patient is slightly overweighed. A reduction of weight is indicated or, is necessary if thestate of health is already affected (e.g. diabetes, high end blood pressure, heart diseases).BMI over 30• Reduction of weight is imperative. HOLD functionBy using the HOLD function the identified weight might be stored and is shown on the display even ifyou stepped already off the scale. The advantage is to take care of the patient first and then take noteof the weight.- Press HOLD/BMI key while scale is under load.- The display shows a blinking arrow symbol next to the HOLD symbol.- Once the scale is loaded with more than 3 kg the blinking stops.- The weight displayed will now also show after unloading of the platform.- To deactivate the Hold function press again HOLD/BMI key.Cleaning and MaintenanceCleaningBefore cleaning make sure the scale has been disconnected from the socket.For cleaning just use a damp cloth or common disinfection fluids.Do not use any aggressive cleaning fluids.Make sure no water or cleaning fluids is penetrating the scale.Your ADE scale is equipped with a mains adapter and rechargeable batteries.If the display shows the symbol `Low´ the power pack needs to be recharged by using the adapter.Safety CheckDo NOT use the scale• If the mains adapter shows visible damages.• if the mains adapter is not working properly any more• After long storage in humid placesPlease contact your dealer or service partner in those cases.Storage and TransportPlease keep all original parts and pieces for an eventual sending back of the scalein order to avoid any possible damage during transport which automatically leads to non warranty.Disconnect all cables before transport and avoid unnecessary damages.Warranty – LiabilityADE will repair or replace this product within a period of 2 years from date of delivery applying todefects occurred due to poor material or workmanship (presentation of invoice is necessary). Allmoveable parts – batteries, cables, mains units, rechargeable batteries etc. – are excluded. Warrantydoes not include natural wear, damages caused by incorrect or negligent handling, overuse orunsuitable or improper storage. The cost of transport will be borne by the customer should theequipment be located anywhere other then the customer’s premises. In the event of transportdamage, claims under warranty can be accepted subject to using the complete original packaging andthe equipment secured the way it was packed and secured originally.
