WATERCARE SERVICES LIMITED <strong>ANNUAL</strong> <strong>REPORT</strong> <strong>2010</strong>Lost TimeThree lost-time injuries were recorded for the year. Following investigation of eachincident, the company reviewed and modified procedures to prevent reoccurrence.The procedures involved the use of semi-portable equipment, access to valvechamber operations and following documented procedures. The duration of the losttimeinjuries was two days, four days, and eight days respectively.Lost-Time Injury Frequency RateThe lost-time injury frequency rate is an industry standard that measures thenumber of lost-time injuries per million hours worked and allows for comparisonsacross different industries. <strong>Watercare</strong>’s injury frequency rate of 3.52 remains belowthe internal target of fewer than five and the InfoHRM 2009 benchmark* of 11.3.This year, the company held 463 health and safety inductions which wereattended by 2,731 internal and external people. Additionally, 563 health and safetyinspections were completed which is 201 more than the target set for the year.Lost-Time Severity RateThe severity rate measures the number of days lost from injury per 200,000 hoursworked. <strong>Watercare</strong> has an injury severity rate of 3.75 which has increased froma rate of 2.20 last year. This reflects the increased severity of the lost-time injuriesas noted above.Trade Waste Compliance Advisor Hamish Jones signs in on arrival at ChemWastein Onehunga, Auckland.Zero Harm WorkplaceThis year <strong>Watercare</strong> joined the Business Leaders Forum “Zero Harm Workplaces”initiative. This initiative, led by the Prime Minister and Minister of Labour, has theobjective of making workplaces “Zero Harm”. Business leaders who have embracedthe initiative and signed, The Pledge, have committed to taking responsibility forhealth and safety and sharing resources to make health and safety everyone’sresponsibility. The Chief Executive has visited <strong>Watercare</strong> offices to inform staffof the commitment the company has made.* <strong>Watercare</strong> uses benchmarking reports from InfoHRM.
