Visit the Fernery through the back of the Wintergardens. What rock type is present here?<br />

Duckponds<br />
Cross the road at the kiosk end of the duckponds and walk down the track called Lover's Walk.<br />
Look at the basalt blocks that lie in the stream. Are they natural or were they put there on purpose?<br />

Basalt blocks are used to form steps on the path (as well as the edges of many roads in <strong>Auckland</strong>).<br />
Where do you think the blocks came from and who would have quarried and shaped them? Hint!<br />
