CEPOLparticularly focuses on: combatingcross-border crime through specialisttraining; disseminating best practiceand research findings; facilitating exchangesand secondments betweenpolice forces; providing training fortrainers; developing common curriculato harmonise training programmes;providing training for police authoritiesin candidate countries; providingan electronic network for sharingknowledge and best practice.CEPOL organises between 80 and100 courses, seminars and conferencesper year onkey topics relevantto police forces inEurope today. Theimplementation ofthe activities takesplace at the nationalpolice training colleges.In 2007, some1 350 senior policeofficers attended aCEPOL activity.CEPOL was establishedas an agency of the EU in 2006.The CEPOL Secretariat is based atBramshill, approximately 70 km westof London.The agency cooperates with a widerange of partners, including otherlaw enforcement agencies such asEuropol, Eurojust and Interpol. CEPOLhas working agreements with non-EUMember States (Norway, Iceland andSwitzerland) and has built relationshipswith non-EU Member States anddifferent universities and researchinstitutes.The acronym CEPOL is Frenchand stands for Collège européen depolice — European Police College (inEnglish).CEPOL has an annual budget ofabout EUR 7.5 million (2007) and isfunded by the European Communities.Improving European police cooperation through training25
