Info to Know . . . continuedConstruction Info:Construction: Please be sure to completea zoning permit before applying for a buildingpermit. They are available at City Hall or on thecity web site: www.plainwell.org.Painting? Siding? Fencing: If you wantto re-locate or temporarily remove the watertouch-read pad outside your building, callPublic Works for an appointment. There isno charge for this service. If you remove ityourself and the wire and/or touch pad arelost or damaged, you will be charged for therepair or replacement. If your touch pad isinside a fenced area, please call us to moveit to a more accessible location. There is nocharge for this service.Demolition: A demolition permit and Miss-Dig are both required to remove any buildingin the City. This alerts the City to cut the waterconnection and adjust the property assessment.Winter Time is SnowTime:In preparation for winter, please remember:• Drain and store garden hoses, if snow coversthem, a meter reader could stumble on them.• Do not plow snow into or across a street,please keep it on the lot it falls upon, Hardpackedsnow in the street could spin a vehicleout of control, potentially injuring someone.• Businesses are required to remove snow andice from sidewalks adjacent to their property.Residents should remove snow and ice fromsidewalks as well so as not to force pedestriansto use the street.• Parking on any street is prohibited 2 a.m.– 5 a.m., from Nov. 1st to April 1st. Overnightparking in downtown lots is by permit and indesignated areas only. This makes it much easierfor the City crew to plow snow and sweep.• All hazard sirens located downtown andin the industrial park, will be tested on the 4thFriday of every month at 11 a.m.. If you hearthe sirens at any other time, take cover until youhear the “all clear”. For further clarification,please contact the Public Safety Department at685-9858.• Leaving town for the winter or an extendedvacation? Alerting our Public Safety Departmentwill help protect your home.Live Christmas Trees: If you use a “real”tree for Christmas, please remember to removeall lighting and decoration before placing it onthe curb for the January 3rd, 2012 pick up or wewill not be able to take it.Brush and Yard Waste are picked up thefirst Monday of every month, all year around. Ifthat Monday is a holiday, we will start pickup onTuesday.
