<strong>Anass</strong> <strong>Bayaga</strong>, <strong>PhD</strong><strong>LETTER</strong> <strong>OF</strong> <strong>PRESENTATION</strong><strong>In</strong> <strong>accordance</strong> with my current duties, experiences and skills, I would like to note thefollowing:I graduated with the following postgraduate degrees: Doctor of Philosophy Ph.D, Masterof Commerce MCom, Master of Education M.Ed, Bachelor of Education B.Ed (Hons).Presently, I am a senior lecturer and the Faculty Research Co-ordinator of Faculty ofEducation in University of Fort Hare. My professional experience and awareness of myin my current research work in application of mathematical and statistical methods inrisk analysis led my faculty to award me for the 2010 academic year research output.At management level (Faculty and University decision making level), I am also amember of: <strong>In</strong>stitutional Research and Development Committee, Faculty Research andHigher Degrees Committee, Faculty Planning and Management Committee, FacultyResearch and Ethics Committee, Faculty Board Member.I currently supervise 7 postgraduate students. Thus: One <strong>PhD</strong> in Neuro Mathematics(mathematical neuroscience); One <strong>PhD</strong> in <strong>In</strong>formation Systems and Technology; FourMasters in Neuro Mathematics and One in general management.I currently teach Mathematics and Technology in the Faculty of Education (BEd1-BEd3). I enjoy research as reflected by number of my selected past and current(2012-2013) research work. I will be most glad to work with postgraduate researchstudents as well as teach Mathematics or information Technology in the Facultyof Education (BEd1-BEd3).Also, I have been invited to serve as a reviewer for Journal of Educational Studies(JES), Journal of Music Research in Africa Muziki, Journal of Social Studies (JSS) andThe Anthropologist.From 2006 to 2011: I have had awards ranging from Award of recognition of researchpublication 2010 from Faculty of Education UFH (Medal) to the Award of Thuthukapostgraduate studies as well as that of the Lawrence Memorial Award. I have also had 3consecutive grants from the Govern Mbeki Development Center for seed funding of myongoing research.Besides the above, I participated in many local and international activities and travelledlocally and internationally; which widened my horizons and gave me many opportunitiesto do practical work with various organisations in partnership with University of FortHare. All of this was very useful for me to apply my major studies. These includedHuman Science Research Council (HSRC) in which I was the co-ordinator of an


international research programme in “Mathematics Teaching in the 21st Century(MT21).”MT21 is a joint research programme conducted by HSRC and Michigan State University(USA). It is part of an international effort to understand how the participating countriesprepare 21st century pure and applied mathematics teachers.via the University of Fort Hare (Faculty of Education) - I am also a chosen lecturerinvolved in the African <strong>In</strong>stitute of Mathematical Sciences for the Advanced Programmein mathematics in Cape Town. The African <strong>In</strong>stitute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS)is a centre for education and research in Cape Town, South Africa. AIMS wasestablished in 2003 as a partnership project of the following 6 universities: Cambridge,Cape Town, Oxford, Paris Sud XI, Stellenbosch, and Western Cape. The goals of AIMSare (1) To promote mathematics and science in Africa (2) To recruit and train talentedstudents and teachers and (3) To build capacity for African initiatives in education,research, and technology.
