Alumni Business SpotlightA 57 percent increase in sales from 2006to 2007 led Alumnus Kip E. Blanchard’92 to become the 2007 New York StateAuctioneer of the Year.The Award: Blanchard was presented anaward from the New York State AuctioneersAssociation after a year that sawCelebrating Alumnihim sell items inWisconsin, NewHampshire, Massachusetts,Pennsylvania,Ohio,and all across NewYork.The Business:Blanchard’sauction houseis located inPotsdam, but hetravels extensively.He’s associatedwith a numberof the foremostauction agenciesin the nation andcites his colleaguesand professional partnerships as a sourceof success.The Philosophy: Blanchard was recognizedwith the award in part because of hisgrowing business connections and clientlist. He said, “The best way to succeedis to align yourself with leaders in theindustry, and use them as role models.”After <strong>Canton</strong>: In 1993, after leaving <strong>SUNY</strong>RememberingJohnA recent $5,000anonymous contributionto the John H. WellsMemorial Scholarshipwill help the Foundationcontinue to honorthe wonderful teachingcontributions of the longtimefaculty member. Mr.Wells helped establishthe Heating and Plumbing program. He taught at the collegefor 23 years. The anonymous donor hopes that other alumniand friends might also make a donation to the Wells MemorialScholarship to further support current and future students.
