HFP01 and HFP01SCHeat Flux SensorsBoth the HFP01 and HFP01SC provide soil heat fluxmeasurements—typically for energy balance or Bowenratio flux systems. These heat flux sensors are manufacturedby Hukseflux (Delft, The Netherlands) forCampbell Scientific, and are compatible with most ofour dataloggers. They are not compatible with ourCR200(X)-series dataloggers. The HFP01 and HFP01SC output a voltage signal thatis proportional to the heat flux of the surrounding medium. At least, two sensors are required for each siteto provide spatial averaging. Sites with heterogeneousmedia may require additional sensors. The HFP01SC is a self-calibrating version of the HFP01.It self-calibrates using the Van den Bos-Hoeksmamethod; an internal heater is included for this process.Self-calibration corrects for errors due to differencesin thermal conductivity between the sensor and surroundingmedium, temperature variations, and slightsensor instabilities.HEATHUKSEFLUXFLUXPLATEThe HFP01SC Self-Calibrating HeatFlux Sensor is intendedfor applicationsrequiring thehighest possibledegree of measurementaccuracy.HEAUp to 1 m2.5 cm2 cmGround Surface6 cm 8 cmThe above illustration shows heat flux sensors installed with the CS616 and TCAV Averaging Soil Temperature Probes. All sensors mustbe completely inserted into the soil face before the hole is backfilled.

Connection to aCWS900 interface allows the HFP01 to be used ina wireless sensor network. This option is only forthe HFP01 (not the HFP01SC).The HFP01 is for applications that do not require self calibration.SpecificationsSensitivity (nominal): 50 μV W -1 m -2Nominal Resistance:Temperature Range:Plate Thickness:Plate Diameter:Weight (w/o cable):HFP01Sensor:2 ohms-30° to +70°C5 mm (0.20 in.)80 mm (3.15 in.)200 g (7.05 oz)ThermopileRange: ±2000 W m -2Sensor Thermal Resistance:
