AcademicExcellenceDear Marian FamilyA parent told me the other day that he thought Marian had the best academics in thestate – bar none. That was a nice compliment, and I could not agree more! We recentlysurveyed our Class of 2009 graduates and asked them how well they were prepared forcollege after graduating from Marian. The data is impressive. Students said such things as:“In my psychology class I knew almost everything that they were teaching because Mr.Baker had taught all of it to us already.” Or: “I felt like I was cheating because calculus wasso easy after having it at Marian.” It is reassuring as a principal and also as a mother of acollege freshman to know that Marian prepares our students for college and life beyond.Marian has grown up over the past 55 years. In the beginning there were no physicaleducation classes. Marian was not designated as a sole college-preparatory school untilthe mid 90s. Advanced Placement (AP) courses were non-existent in my days as astudent, yet now there are 35 honors classes, 10 AP classes and seven dual enrollmentcourses. The Marian transcript means something to colleges. They know that there aresignificant expectations put upon students to perform and that the competition is intense.Marian students interview well and present themselves with confidence and poise. Thededicated and enthusiastic staff creates an environment of growth and adaptation. Marianwill continue to follow research and create an environment that empowers young womento think, question and change the world! We are so blessed to be a part of a community that places such enormous value oneducation and learning. The classes are vibrant with eager students and committedteachers. Marian will continue to foster academic excellence as we grow and develop withnew technologies, research and educational initiatives. Thank you for supporting Marianin this most important endeavor.Blessings,Susan M.
