John C. <strong>Drumgoole</strong>ABOUT CAMPEntering the 14 th season of providing for the children of Staten Island, The <strong>CYO</strong> <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>Camp</strong>name honors Fr. John C. <strong>Drumgoole</strong> and Congresswoman Elizabeth <strong>Connelly</strong>. Fr. John C.<strong>Drumgoole</strong> believed that “If the heart is not cultivated, all is lost.” Using this ideal, the campencourages cooperation, friendship and opportunities for children to achieve their full potential asloving human beings. In honor of Congresswoman Elizabeth <strong>Connelly</strong>, the camp also welcomeschildren with specials needs and provides an essential childhood experience for physically disabledchildren, including an accessible water park for all campers. The Fr. <strong>Drumgoole</strong>-<strong>Connelly</strong> <strong>CYO</strong><strong>Summer</strong> Day <strong>Camp</strong> is licensed by the NYC Department of Health and accredited by the American<strong>Camp</strong>ing Association.CAMP STAFFPool staff are Red Cross-Certified Lifeguards with completed CPRand standard First Aid training. Full-time Registered Nurse on campgrounds. Adult staff supervise children campers. Low staff-to-camperratio.COUNSELORS IN TRAINING [CIT]Ages 14-17Our CIT program teaches leadership skills and encourages personalgrowth in a supportive environment. CITs learn about service to campand community, how to effectively engage campers, and how to workcollaboratively. CIT program applicants must be available to work theentire camp season, submit a resume, 4 letters of recommendation anda copy of their working papers. Our staff is available to meet withthe families of special needs campers priorto registration. There are five units of <strong>CYO</strong> campers organized byage groups and special requirements. <strong>CYO</strong> staff members arein constant attendance to ensure safety and fun.SUNS children 4 to 6 years. Staff-to-camper ratio 1:6MOONS children 7 to 9 years. Staff-to-camper ratio 1:8STARS children 10 to13 years. Staff-to-camper ratio 1:10COMETS special needs group for ambulatory youth andyoung adults from 4 to 21 years. 1:3 staff-to-camper ratio.GALAXIES special needs group for non-ambulatory youthand young adults from 4 to 21 years who have limitedmobility. 1:3 staff-to-camper ratio.Rainy DaysMovies and creative play in the <strong>CYO</strong> MIV Building.<strong>Camp</strong> is in session rain or shine from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.Extended Hours7:30 am to 8:30 am and 3:30 to 5:30 pm for an additional fee.Lunch<strong>Camp</strong>ers must bring their own lunch.
