accumulated in the silt traps/sediment basins shall be removed whenit has reached 2/3 of its depth and disposed at designated site.(c)Gabion WallA gabion wall which comprises rocks in gabions but of smallernature compared to silt trap, shall be constructed in difficult terrainssuch as on slopes and narrow valleys for the purpose of collectingand storing sediment prior to entering natural waterways.(d)Check DamA check dam which is a small, temporary or permanent dam shallbe constructed across a drainage ditch, swale or channel for thepurpose of lowering the speed of concentrated flows. The check dams shall be inspected regularly especially after heavyrain and any damages shall be rectified. The sediment accumulatedbehind the check dams shall be removed when it has reached 2/3 ofits height and disposed at designated site. The height of the checkdam shall be maintained to be the same at all time.(e)Silt CurtainSilt curtain shall be used to mitigate sediments by confiningsediments and prevent dispersal and contamination of the waterbody especially in lakes and riverbanks. Silt curtain shall also beused as a divider to prevent sediment laden-water from migrating tothe rest of the water body.Silt curtain shall be checked for rips, tears and other types ofdeterioration and replaced as needed. The suspended sedimentstrapped behind silt curtain shall be allowed to settle for a minimumof 24 hours, prior to removal of the silt curtain.(f)Sand bag barrierA sandbag barrier is a series of sand-filled bags placed on a levelcontour to intercept sheet flows. Sandbag barriers pond sheet flowrunoff, allowing sediment to settle out.Sandbag barriers are suitable as a linear sediment control measurewhich includes below the toe of slopes and erodible slopes, assediment traps at culvert/pipe outlets, down slope of exposed soilareas, around temporary stockpiles and spoil areas, as check damsacross mildly sloped construction roads and parallel to a roadway tokeep sediment off paved areas.Sand bag barrier shall be checked daily before and after rain events,In addition, sandbags exposed to sunlight will cause degradation33
