AK-S12NE64-AEthernet Starter Kitfor Freescale MC9S12NE64The AK-S12NE64-A Starter Kit is an integrated system designedto provide the user with a complete, ready-to-use embeddedEthernet application. The Starter Kit is built around the FreescaleMC9S12NE64 microcontroller, which has a built-in, dedicatedEthernet peripheral. The Starter Kit demonstrates how effectivelythe MC9S12NE family of microcontrollers can be used inreal-world embedded Ethernet applications. The Starter Kit is composed of:• A general purpose evaluation board (including LEDs, a DCmotor, a temperature sensor, a buzzer, a serial connector, apotentiometer, DIP-switches and push-buttons);• A “Core Module” board (including the MC9S12NE64microcontroller, external FLASH and EEPROM memory, anEthernet connector and a BDM connector);• An AC power adapter;• Ethernet and serial cables;• Software (including free source code of the TCP/IP stack). The Starter Kit can be used in two ways:• For demonstration purposes. The Starter Kit works as a webserver. Connect the board to your local network and use astandard browser to access HTML pages. A JAVA applet isprovided which allows the board to be viewed/controlledthrough a browser. With the provided software utilities youcan upload your own HTML pages, images, etc. and accessthem through any PC in your LAN.• For user application development. A complete, integrateddevelopment environment is provided, which allows you towrite your own software, download it to the MC9S12NE64microcontroller and debug it. Downloading and debuggingyour application is possible through a serial monitorpre-programmed into the microcontroller. The Starter Kitincludes full source codes of the TCP/IP protocol together withfull documentation for easy porting to your customapplication.RS-232 SectionThis area contains an RS-232connector, an RS-232transceiver, and two jumpers toconnect/disconnect theSCI0_TXD and SCI0_RXDsignals to/from themicrocontroller.Power Supply SectionThis area contains a 12 V DCinput connector and generatestwo regulated voltages: 3.3 VDC and 5.0 V DC. The 12 V DCinput voltage is also providedto the board.ATD Reference SectionThis area contains two jumperswhich allows you to define thehigh (VRH) and low (VRL)threshold for the MCU internalA/D converter.LAN SectionThis area contains five LEDs(”ACTIVITY”, “LINK”, “SPEED”,“DUPLEX” and “COLLISION”)which monitor the LAN status.Core Module and Signal Pins SectionThis area is dedicated to the hosting of theCM-HCS12NE64 Ethernet Core Module. On theevaluation board, four connector strips are availablewith all of the Core Module’s microcontrollersignals. The CM-HCS12NE64 Ethernet Core Module is theheart of the AK-S12NE64-A Starter Kit. It features:Inputs SectionThis area contains various inputcontrols: a potentiometer(together with a jumper toconnect/disconnect it to/fromthe microcontroller’s PAD0 pin),four push-buttons (connectedto the microcontroller’s PG3,PG2, PG1 and PG0 pins) andeight general-purposeDIP-switches connected to themicrocontroller’s Port H andPort G pins.Outputs SectionThis area contains eighthigh-efficiency (low-current)LEDs connected to Port A,together with eight jumpers toconnect/disconnect each of theeight LEDs to/from theirrespective microcontroller’sPort A pins.• A 112-pin LQFP MC9S12NE64 microcontroller;• A 10/100 BaseT integrated RJ45 Ethernetconnector;• An 8 Mbit (1 MByte x 8) serial FLASH memory;• A 4 Kbit (512 Bytes x 8) serial EEPROM;• A 25 MHz crystal oscillator;• A Reset supervisor circuitry;• A BDM connector for in-circuitdebugging/programming;• Two header connectors to connect to theAK-S12NE64-A evaluation board base with all ofthe microcontroller’s signals.Reset Push-ButtonThe Reset push-button isdirectly connected to themicrocontroller’s RESET pin.Speaker SectionThis area contains apiezoelectric speaker with theappropriate driving circuit. Ajumper is present whichenables the speaker circuitry tobe connected/disconnectedto/from the microcontroller’sPT6/TIM_IOC6 pin.Prototype AreaThe prototype section featuresboth a standard, thru-hole area(for mounting traditionalcomponents) and a SMD area(for soldering SMD componentsin SOIC package).Motor SectionThis area contains a brushed, permanent magnet, 12 V DCmotor, together with a 5.0 AH-bridge motor driver(MC33887).A series of jumpers allows youto connect/disconnect the linesrequired to interface theH-bridge motor driver to/fromthe microcontroller. Two additional jumpers areavailable toconnect/disconnect the motorto/from the H-bridge motordriver. This enables you to driveyour own DC motor.A red “FAULT” LED indicates theH-bridge motor driver’s faultstate.A 0.5 A auto-restore fuse ispresent on the 12 V line used topower the H-bridge motordriver.Temperature SectionThis area contains an NTCtemperature sensor andassociated amplifier, calibratedto detect a temperature in therange 0-50°C. A jumper ispresent which enables toconnect/disconnect thetemperature sensor circuitryto/from the microcontroller’sPAD2/AN2 pin.Supported Protocols and ServicesThe AK-S12NE64-A Starter Kit includes full source codes of theOpenTCP Open Source project (developed by Viola Systems)together with full documentation for easy porting to your customapplication. The OpenTCP Open Source project brings a high-quality TCP/IPstack to embedded systems. Entirely written in C, it allows easyporting to any existing microcontroller platform for which a Ccompiler is available. The OpenTCP Open Source supports the following protocols andservices:• ARP• BOOTP• DHCP Client• DNS Client• HTTP Server• POP3 Client• SMTP Client• TCP• IP• TFTP Client• UDP• ICMPStarter Kit Package ContentsThe AK-S12NE64-A Starter Kit comes with everything you need to startdeveloping and debugging your Ethernet application.• General-purpose evaluation board base;• Ethernet core module;• AC adapter;• Ethernet cross cable;• Serial cable;• SofTec Microsystems AK-S12NE64-A “System Software” CD-ROM;• Metrowerks CodeWarrior for HC(S)12 CD-ROM;• Printed user’s manual.
