IV. Jesus Christ Teaches Us About OurselvesA. Jesus embodies what has been revealed in andthrough creation.1. God created <strong>the</strong> human person in his image andlikeness; male and female he created <strong>the</strong>m. Thisis why we must respect <strong>the</strong> dignity <strong>of</strong> all people(CCC, nos. 1700-1709).2. To be fully human means to fully accept andbecome <strong>the</strong> person God created us to be, a humanperson endowed with special gifts which reflectGod: immortality, intellect, free will, <strong>the</strong> ability tolove (CCC, nos. 356-358, 1702-1706).3. The Incarnation affirms that we are created asgood, but in need <strong>of</strong> salvation, and are meant<strong>for</strong> eternal glory with God. The Incarnationalso describes how God continues to work outour sanctification in <strong>the</strong> world, e.g., Church,sacraments, priesthood (CCC, nos. 461-469).4. God has entrusted his creation to us; we arestewards charged with procreating and protectinglife and using <strong>the</strong> rest <strong>of</strong> creation respectfully(CCC, nos. 287, 354).B. Jesus Christ redeems us and gives us his grace so that wecan choose <strong>the</strong> good according to God’s will and resistsin and its effects (CCC, nos. 1705, 1708-1709).1. Jesus invites us to believe in him, to invite himinto our hearts, and to follow him and his teachingas <strong>the</strong> path that leads to life, <strong>for</strong> he is “<strong>the</strong> way,<strong>the</strong> truth, and <strong>the</strong> life” and is worthy <strong>of</strong> our belief,adoration, and love (CCC, nos. 1741-1742).2. He reveals <strong>the</strong> way to repentance and conversion,teaching us to leave sin behind and to live a newlife in him; he gives us <strong>the</strong> spiritual power andgrace to overcome evil; he also teaches us aboutGod’s <strong>for</strong>giveness (CCC, nos. 1847-1848).3. He teaches us how to be single-hearted in ourdesire <strong>for</strong> God, to <strong>of</strong>fset <strong>the</strong> disordered affectionsand divided hearts with which we live (CCC, nos.1716-1717).C. Jesus Christ reveals <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r to us, who we are, andour call to holiness.1. By becoming man, and by his Death andResurrection, Jesus Christ unites us to God (CCC,nos. 461-464).2. We become <strong>the</strong> free adopted children <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>rthrough Baptism (Gal 4; CCC, nos. 1265-1270).3. We are con<strong>for</strong>med to Christ and can grow inholiness and goodness.a. Lessons from <strong>the</strong> Sermon on <strong>the</strong> Mount(Mt 5–7; CCC, nos. 1716-1724).b. Jesus also tells us <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> goal in this life and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> end<strong>of</strong> life.1.
