<strong>Geography</strong> across Northern IrelandA <strong>Level</strong> <strong>AQA</strong> <strong>Geography</strong>, 3- 5 daysStudents will have the opportunity to explore Northern Ireland and cover several geographicaltopics. By carrying out fieldwork, students willalso be able to understand the factors thathave lead to the regeneration and rebrandingof the area, the building works that have takenplace as a result, and how the area stands tobenefit from further redevelopment andreimaging.Unit 3 GEOG3 ContemporaryGeographical Issues: World Cities (Urbandecline and regeneration within urbanareas)Full day options (please choose 1 option for each day)OPTION 1River StudyBus: Derrygonnelly to LoughNavar (rtn)£80 (depends on bus size)OPTION 2Psammosere Succession andHabitat ConservationBus: Derrygonnelly toMullaghmore (rtn) £150approx(60 seat bus)After a short introduction session, students willundertake fieldwork on the River Sillees, whichflows through the Marble Arch Caves GlobalGeopark.Students will visit 3 sites (class divided into 4groups so that they will have a total of 12 sites)and take measurements of river characteristicsat each site.Through the fieldwork experience, students willalso have an opportunity to gain an insight inthe wider forces, such as geology, glaciationand human settlement, which have shaped thelandscape of the Geopark.After completing fieldwork, students will havean opportunity to work on follow up activitiesfor their river study.Through this session, students will studypsammosere succession at Mullaghmore SandDunes, Co Sligo and collect data along aninterrupted belt transect. OPTION 3FloodingBus: Derrygonnelly toEnniskillen (rtn) £80 approx(60 seat bus)Students will undertake a study of Enniskillenand the surrounding area to establish the riskand likely impact of flooding. In the widerarea, students will also carry out fieldworkassessing the impact of tourism and investigatethe advantages and disadvantages to localcommunities.
