Course participants canchoose to concentrate on a script of their choice from the following: Italic, Italic capitals, Foundational hand, Roman capitals,sharpened italic, uncial, Cnut charter hand, San Vito capitals, copperplate, experimental letter<strong>for</strong>ms, learning or tuning up thealphabet, letter spacing and using the script at different sizes in short quotations in ink and colour. Alternatively, or in combinationwith scripts from above list, participants can be guided through a series of experiments using colour in the pen and backgroundfollowed by exploring the creative interpretation of short texts.About the TutorGaynor Goffe, BA Hons, London University, Surrey Diploma in Art and Design, is a freelance calligrapher. She spent three years as anassistant to calligrapher Donald Jackson, followed by 16 years teaching on the calligraphy <strong>course</strong>s at the Roehampton Institute and 3years teaching at Reigate School of Art and Design. She is a Fellow of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators and also a Fellow of theCalligraphy and Lettering Arts Society. Her two books, Calligraphy Made Easy and Calligraphy Step-by-Step (with Anna Ravenscroft)were published in 1994.Start and finish timesAfternoon tea on Friday is available from 1600, but the first <strong>for</strong>mal activity is dinner at 1900 (with the bar open from 1845!).Residents:Non-residents:<strong>Please</strong> aim to arrive between 1600 and 1800 on Friday to allow us sufficient time to show you to youraccommodation and around the communal areas.You do not need to arrive quite so early but please can you be here by 1800 as we need to show you thecommunal areas as well.The <strong>course</strong> ends at 1600 on Sunday.The <strong>Field</strong> <strong>Studies</strong> <strong>Council</strong> (FSC) is an environmental education charity committed tohelping people explore, understand and be inspired by the natural world. About the CentreFlat<strong>for</strong>d Mill lies at the heart of the Dedham Vale, on the banks of the River Stour near the Suffolk-Essex border. The Centrebuildings, particularly the Mill and Willy Lott’s House, are instantly recognisable since they feature in many paintings by JohnConstable.
