ADULT SESSIONAL WORKER - JOB DESCRIPTIONAccountable to:Main Objectives:The Domiciliary Care Service Manager <strong>and</strong> Manager of theService you are doing sessions with.To provide sessional support during periods of staff shortage orsickness or to cover specific support sessions as agreed withthe Domiciliary Care Manager.To ensure that our services continue to be carried out smoothly<strong>and</strong> in the best interests of people who live in houses or useservicesTo ensure all work is carried out in a way that enables serviceusers to exercise their rights, to be aware of <strong>and</strong> meet theirresponsibilities <strong>and</strong> support development of opportunities withintheir own home <strong>and</strong> the wider community.Work with colleagues <strong>and</strong> people with learning disabilities inthe promotion of the <strong>Westminster</strong> <strong>Society</strong>’s core values, whilstfulfilling <strong>and</strong> furthering the aims <strong>and</strong> objectives of the service.Limits of Authority:Terms & ConditionsPayTo work within agreed budges <strong>and</strong> policies <strong>and</strong> procedures ofboth the <strong>Westminster</strong> <strong>Society</strong> <strong>and</strong> the individual services.All sessional workers sign a terms <strong>and</strong> conditions agreementwith the <strong>Society</strong> which sets out that you will be engaged on an‘as <strong>and</strong> when basis’ <strong>and</strong> expected to work across all ourservices depending on your skills, experience, needs of theservice <strong>and</strong> the availability of work. You will also be expected toattend essential training to keep your skills <strong>and</strong> knowledge upto date <strong>and</strong> meet our statutory requirements.The <strong>Society</strong> salary scale for Sessional Support Workers is£9.00 per hour. The hourly rate includes payment for annualleave equivalent to 28 days leave for full time work. Therefore10.8% of your hourly rate (£0.97) is the payment for youraccrued annual leave. Additional sleep-in payments in will bepaid at £32.00 per night. Bank holidays worked are paid at time<strong>and</strong> a half.KEY AREAS OF WORK:SERVICES To support people to underst<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> meet their responsibilities as tenants orlicensees <strong>and</strong> encourage individual involvement <strong>and</strong> responsibility in the running oftheir own home To support people to use community resources, promote a variety of social <strong>and</strong>leisure activities <strong>and</strong> support people with their health needsPage 1 of 4


To develop positive relationships with people <strong>and</strong> plan <strong>and</strong> provide support whichenables them to achieve their goalsRISK MANAGEMENT To ensure the general well being, safety <strong>and</strong> security of everyone who uses theservice by continually assessing risk <strong>and</strong> following up on issues <strong>and</strong> concerns To maintain high st<strong>and</strong>ards of health, safety <strong>and</strong> hygiene by ensuring a clean <strong>and</strong>safe environment <strong>and</strong> supporting the people who use the service with their domesticresponsibilities. To personally undertake cleaning tasks according to the needs of theservice. To work within agreed Health <strong>and</strong> Safety Policies <strong>and</strong> procedures <strong>and</strong> support peopleto develop awareness of their own health issues <strong>and</strong> healthy living To support people to take medication <strong>and</strong> complete the necessary monitoring <strong>and</strong>recording regarding medication To be aware of the vulnerability of the people we support <strong>and</strong> be alert to the potentialfor abuse. To follow agreed local <strong>and</strong> national procedures for recognizing <strong>and</strong>reporting situations that may put someone at risk or cause harmADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE To maintain <strong>and</strong> update paper <strong>and</strong> computer based records in line with the <strong>Society</strong>’spolicies <strong>and</strong> legal requirements To ensure financial records are up to date, budget limits are adhered to <strong>and</strong> financialinstructions are observed. To provide support with banking <strong>and</strong> budgeting issues forservice users To complete other administration tasks including letter <strong>and</strong> report writing at theinstruction of a <strong>Society</strong> manager.TEAMTo develop positive working relationships with team members in any service whereyou work <strong>and</strong> to carry out work in a way that provides support <strong>and</strong> encouragement toall team members To work within the policies <strong>and</strong> procedures of the organisation <strong>and</strong> each service To participate in shift planning, h<strong>and</strong>over, daily recording <strong>and</strong> team meetings toensure good communication <strong>and</strong> support within the teamPERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT To manage own time effectively <strong>and</strong> complete all responsibilities of a shift or supportsession To attend support meetings with service based managers or the Domiciliary CareManager, reflect on feedback given <strong>and</strong> use feedback to improve own work To attend training <strong>and</strong> development opportunities at the request of the DomiciliaryCare Manager based on m<strong>and</strong>atory <strong>and</strong> service specific trainingIn order to deliver services effectively a degree of flexibility is needed <strong>and</strong> the post holdermay be required to perform work not specifically referred to the above.
