AMANDA CARR, Vocalisthitting the national Billboard Charts with her bigband release, Common Thread, vocalist AmandaCarr has enjoyed stellar reviews and global press.Legendary journalist, Nat Hentoff penned yet anotherpage of accolades in the Wall Street Journal toutingAmanda’s musical talent and accomplishments as wellas garnering rousing support for her not-for-profitventure, “American Big Band Preservation Society.”The Society is an organization that looks to preservenot only big band music, but also to carry on herparents’ musical legacy.Amanda’s personal journey began at an early age when she attended the SouthShore Conservatory of Music in Hingham, MA, and began performing pop musicas a singer/pianist in local clubs in the Boston area when she was a young teen.As she attempted to stay on the classical music path at the University of Lowell, her public performances were steeped in rock and pop and she eventuallychanged from music education to focus on marketing and other more traditionalcareer opportunities while maintaining her music as an avocation. In the late 1980’s she lived in New York and then Los Angeles to support herGrammy nominated fiancé’s career. When he was killed in a plane crash (RebaMcIntyre’s band) in 1991, she returned to Boston where she filled in for some ofher mother’s big band performances. Soon Amanda realized that the jazz andbig band genre offered far more appeal than when she was younger, and shequickly gravitated to performing and recording fresh interpretations of the GreatAmerican Songbook. She met and married her Emmy award winning husband in the mid 1990’sand, with him, has created and recorded many commercials, video projects anddocumentaries, one for which she was nominated an Emmy in 1998. Amanda’smulti-faceted musical persona finds her in a variety of different performancesituations: rock bands, small intimate jazz clubs and large scale venues withbacking orchestras. Her accessibility and enthusiasm makes it easy for her to fitin with the Concord Band, both musically and as an honorary member. Amandafeels that this is a family environment and, with all she has going on, performingwith the Concord Band feels like coming home.18 19
